safe place for kitten to sleep!

We are hopefully in the process of adopting a kitten. He is 11 weeks.
I'm planning to create a "safe" kitten space in the dining room, with a bed and hidey box and his food and water with the litter tray on the other side of the room.
Will he be ok sleeping in here or would you advise getting a big kitty crate until he settles in?
My previous cat was a teenager (5 months) when I got her and she was safe to leave in the living room (but much preferred my bed where she could sit on my hair...)
What would you wise folks advise?
I will ask his fosterer too but if I have missed anything vital please do tell me

I haven't much choice in the matter with my Siamese boys. If they haven't already checked out the bed on arrival, they do so with purpose come late evening.

Your safe space sounds fine - just don't take it amiss if he ignores all your arrangements and decides himself where to sleep. Smile Much will depend on his personality - which I'm assuming you know little about at the moment.

Sounds great to me - our kitten sleeps in the downstairs loo with litter tray, food, water and our others cat's basket! He had his own but cried all night but I had a brainwave and he cuddles up with the smell of our big boy happy as Larry

Aww if he cries I'll move him up to our room. I'm just concerned to make sure he has a space so that he can't get stuck/damage himself when I'm not there to keep an eye on him.
He is a very confident kitty and likes lots of cuddles so I can see him a) creating mayhem and b) wanting to sleep with me!
His fosterer had him and his siblings from being a tiny baby (poor little abandoned mite) so I'll be asking her advice!

My kitten has a lovely pet bed and is currently choosing to sleep on any flat surface that is not the floor :) currently asleep on the Wii....

Our girls were 13 weeks when we got them. They slept the first night in the kitchen. (No hidey holes and surfaces cleared off!) It meant they could settle and made sure they could find the litter tray and food. (They had also been sick and had upset tummies in the car on the way home. The next night they were on our bed.

Kitchen may be a good idea, thanks Wolfiefan it is just the dining room is cosier - my only worry is him getting stuck behind the piano...

Firstcat went behind the piano for 4 hours when he first arrived in our then house.

He came out. (Just as well because it's a heavy heavy piano.)

wolfiefan, they are adorable!

cozietoesie · 24/09/2015 17:03

PS - for peace of mind, it does no harm to go round the house and 'kitten-proof' it eg securing loose kick boards and trailing wires, stuffing up open chimneys - getting Ming vases out of the way for a week or two etc. Wink

The odds are that he'll still find a place you haven't thought of but at least you won't have complete anxiety every time someone opens a door.

Our big boy (actually 10 months old) has a huge choice of places to sleep but often ends up here! Or here!

Aww cute cats X

My big boy likes to sleep under the duvet/under blankets, great big undertall thing he is, I am still baffled at how he gets so flat under there - he also has thing for toilets when small used to fall in (the lets not loose him down the toilet however has been great as all males visitors & residents must shut the loo seats :) what a good pussycat I have :)

Justgetknitting · 24/09/2015 17:20

ALMOST fell in... First time he went near it we could see trouble in this one :)
