Two orphaned kittens...help!

DH came home from work earlier with two tiny kittens which were found on Saturday where he works. They were about to be taken to the local SPCA which is renowned for putting animals to sleep and DH couldn't bear the thought.

However, we have never owned cats and certainly not this small. Vet reckons they are about 4-5 weeks. Only had them for a few hours but they do not seem interested in food.

Tried them on a teat and then a syringe with kitty milk and only one really had any. Any tips? How often should they be eating?

Also at this age, will they know how to pee/poo themselves or do I need to be encouraging this by rubbing?

Any other useful tips for looking after kittens this tiny? Gratefully accepted!

So pleased to hear that you're all doing so well.

God, kittens are exhausting! Eat, poo, sleep, run round like mentalists, dive bomb off the sofas and repeat.

I swear I've had about 19 mini heart attacks today when I leave the room to come back in and find out that they have discovered how to something new or just totally disappear.

They are like tiny furry ninja emperors.

And man, can they eat. They've put on about 80g each since Wednesday night. They've devoured a pouch of wet food each today and still aren't finished.

But damn are they cute.

That tabby is adorable, beautiful markings. It's great they've got such good appetites, means they're strong and healthy Smile

Hahaha! I know what you mean Squad! We have a 4 month old kitten. He's been with us for about a month now. I've lost count of the number of times I've run around shrieking 'Where's the kitten? Where's the kitten? WHERE IS THE KITTEN?' Confused. They just disappear, don't they?!

The tabby looks so contented...

They are gorgeous! I love the name Nyah..how lucky you all are to have found each other Smile

How did I seriously ever worry that they weren't eating or pooing enough? They are now like machines.

Easily putting on 10g a day and are so active, it is incredible.

How did I also ever live without them? Working from home is pretty lonely, as well as in a new small town and country where I know no one, so they are brilliant companions.

DH is as smitten and has just spent a small fortune on a cat bed that matches our living room decor perfectly.

Not told him that they may not use it!

Am so envious. Still think that the only thing the tabby lacks in the photo above is a cigar, perhaps caviar...

I want to be your kitten when reincarnated..

Aw lazysusan, I love the name Nyah too - great meaning (purpose) too!

MissMarpleCat · 05/10/2015 17:30

Thought you were due an update and gives me an excuse to talk about my favourite little men. Grin

9/10 weeks old and growing like weeds. Had their first injections and took it like champs - one even curled up on the vet's hand to sleep before!

Eating well, into everything but with their own separate personalities. Tabby is a real minx, first one to start a fight but also first one to start yelling! Black one is more chilled and a real Mummy's boy. His favourite place to sleep is anywhere on me.

DH equally smitten - it is so cute to hear him talk to the kittens. He whispered "I love you so much" to them the other night when he thought I was asleep Grin

Thank you again for all your help with a slightly hysterical first time cat mum. I'm so much more relaxed now and really enjoying the sheer joy they bring to our lives.
