Bored moggy

Hi everyone,
My female cat who is a year and a half old, is bored! She talks to me as if to say 'give me something to keep me entertained!'. She has toy mice, balls with feathers, 2 scratching posts and a cat nip ball. All of which she has played with previously but now seems to be 'done' with them. She has access whenever she wants to go outside but as she is nervous she doesn't go very far so is not off exploring.

Any suggestions for what else I can do/give her to play with? She also isn't bothered about treats so I don't think one of those balls you hide food in would interest her.

Thanks

My kittens love screwed up paper. I also have a laser pointer (use with caution though!) They also love foam balls.
I switch toys frequently.

Turn the light out. Turn the light on your phone/ small spotlight torch and shine it a round the room - dart it about fairly quickly.

Chasing the light should entertain her for a little while.

cozietoesie · 22/09/2015 20:42

Were you talking about a treat ball which was additional to her normal food or making her work just a little for all of her food?

cloudlessskies · 22/09/2015 20:45

Thanks! I'll make some screwed paper balls now and will try the light/laser pen.

I meant a treat ball in addition Cozie, do you think put her usual dry food in it?

Ah - if she's on dry food anyway, then Yes, I'd put her normal food in a ball - or you can make things yourself. (There are some references around so I'll see if I can find a link to one.)

cloudlessskies · 22/09/2015 20:50

Thanks Cozie. I once made a similar thing using empty loo rolls with holes in and she wasn't interested. But maybe she wasn't hungry enough!

I can't find my own bookmark so here's one that's around. (You can ignore the advert.)

Plenty more ideas on the web.

cozietoesie · 22/09/2015 20:57

You were on the right lines then, it sounds. Smile

Maybe deliver the first one at normal feeding time when she's expecting food and is hungry.

cloudlessskies · 22/09/2015 20:57

Great. She's going to have to work for her breakfast tomorrow! x

Well done. Wink

And don't give in when she gives you the 'Nice try, Mum -now where's my real breakfast?' look!

Mine are currently addicted to the laser pointer. I've never seen them so exited. We call th game 'Dot' and play every evening. I even do it outside. They're absolutely crazy about it. Pearl follows me around the house trying to persuade me to do it all the time.

Another game we have is called 'The Stair Game' where we throw a foam ball up the stairs and they chase after it.

They also like feathery dangly things on the end of sticks.

cloudlessskies · 22/09/2015 21:12

Thanks hidden. Feathery dangly things and ball up the stairs isn't cutting it anymore for my fussy mog!

The trouble with Seniorboy is that he's too darned bright. I bought him a Flying Frenzy thing and sat playing with it (and I was good) only to watch his eye gradually moving up the string, along the rod, down to my hand and up to my face. At which point he sighed slightly and deigned to outstretch a paw - but I received the distinct impression that he was indulging me rather than the other way round.

Luckily, heat and love remain firm favourites. With winter coming on, cloudless, make sure she has a nice warm snoozing place for the dark days. Smile

hiddenhome2 · 22/09/2015 21:19

Ah, you need a laser pointer then. It's like kitty crack Grin

TenForward82 · 22/09/2015 21:24

My cat is the same (unknown age though)

We bought her this, which she loves for a while: www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=1389&pf_id=62197&utm_source=ShoppingFeed&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=COOx78C8i8gCFeoBwwodaHAJJA

Tenforward - moggy is watching the demo video with me!

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 22/09/2015 21:32

My kitties would love that!

TenForward82 · 22/09/2015 21:44

That track is seriously the most engaged she's every been with a toy.

Pro-tip - if your cat is having trouble getting her/his paws through the gaps to chase the ball, remove a couple of the track covers (although you do run the risk of the ball popping out and disappearing under the sofa)

Pro-tip 2: invest in spare balls!

hiddenhome2 · 22/09/2015 21:45

How do the balls travel round?

TenForward82 · 22/09/2015 22:07

hidden remember jumping beans? They have their own inertia once they are started off. They don't go for miles, maybe around 3/4 of the track, but enough to keep kitty interested.

hiddenhome2 · 22/09/2015 22:35

Oh, right. It looks really good. I might get them one as they get bored once the weather gets colder and they stay in.

Not too expensive either.

The prices of some of those play trees are really high Confused

Wearyheadedlady · 23/09/2015 01:37

How about playing catch? My cat is also 1.5 years old, some days she can't be arsed and other days she wants to play the WHOLE day long. She won't take me pretending not to notice either as she will come and pat me, on the hand or on the face and beg.
