Lump found on my cat's back

Bugger. DS pointed out one of our cats has a lump on his back. It is quite big - I am guessing about the size of a strawberry. I don't think it is on the skin, it feels underneath. The cat seems as normal. He doesn't do much at the best of times, and he isn't very sociable either, but he is eating normally (actually seems hungrier of late) and looks well.

I know I have to take him to the vet, but I need to steel myself for what they might say. Any ideas anyone?

Oh he is 10 btw, no previous health problems.

Blimey cyclerunmum, a 3 month old kitten? That surely has to be something benign. I have my fingers crossed for you.

Well, this thread has completely put the wind up me and I suppose I am beginning to face reality (initially, I realise now, I had my head in the sand a bit as I simply didn't want to face up to the cat having anything wrong with him) so I am going to take him back next week and have the biopsy done. I have to confess, the cost is worrying me. The vet said about £100 just for sticking a needle in and drawing out some cells! so I can't imagine what an operation would cost. But I will have to face that when the time comes.

Yes, I will report back when I know more.

Thanks electric, I know we took her in when she was found abandoned at 7 weeks have de-fleaed, ticks, worms you name it, just had her microchipped and vaccinated and have firmly fallen in love with her, so I really hope it's nothing serious.

I never even asked how much it would cost for her test! But I have an ill old dog who we spend a fortune on, so am used to big vet bills. We do have kitten insured (since the day after we got her!) so if it is anything too much we are covered.

Fingers crossed for both of them.

Hey OP, I was wondering how everything turned out? Reading through this, it sounds near exactly what I've just found on my own 4-year old cat, and the same on our 13-year old cat (but his hurts him greatly when touched, while the 4-year just lightly annoyed. The 4-years bump is also smaller than the 13-years bump). I've searched up so much and have found nothing that sounds similar other than your experience, and my mom took the 13-years to the get, but claims they had no answer, so I don't know what to do. I must admit I'm much more worried for my 4-years cat, since he is much younger and still has a lot of life in him. Additonal information: both cats are on the more overweight side, and both had matted fur right over the area with the bumps. Any information would be greatly appreciated, I am beside myself with worry.

Hi Electricflyzapper....what happened with your cat?
I am reading this thread and it is exactly what is happening with my kitty.
