Help - very horny kitten!

Our little tortie sisters are 8 months old now, and the smaller kittenier one of them has come into heat and is currently shouting it from the rooftops, constantly and incessantly....

Someone PLEASE tell me this stops soon!

(They're both booked in to be spayed on Friday, poor babies!)

Move the appointment forward?
Ours were neutered at 5 months. They should be neutered before being allowed outside. Otherwise, well, I know several people with young female cats who got pregnant that way.

cozietoesie · 20/09/2015 01:55

Keep every door and window tightly closed and buy some ear plugs. The spaying should take care of any early problems but cats in heat can be real stupid so if either of them got out, they could do something like see a handsome bit of stuff across the road and run across it into the path of a car.

(And you don't need them going AWOL if they have a vet's appointment on Friday.)

Good luck.

EleanorAbernathy · 20/09/2015 01:59

Don't worry they're not getting out any time soon, we are on lockdown!

Unfortunately the vets don't have anything earlier - ah well, only another week of this!

For future reference, here's the current ICC guidance on neutering cats. You'll see from that - and from the linked Cat Group Policy Statement - that neutering at 4 months is currently recommended. If they've got to 8 months without either coming into heat or having an unwanted pregnancy, you've actually been very lucky!

NameChange30 · 20/09/2015 14:19

LOL at "handsome bit of stuff" Grin

EleanorAbernathy · 20/09/2015 20:45

She'd settle for any old manky tom cat at the moment! Grin

Her sister seems a bit more fussy.

We were planning on getting them done sooner but things kept getting in the way (they don't go out anyway so we weren't too worried) but it can't wait any longer now!

I spoke too soon, the quieter one started singing along not long after I posted that....

In consolation though they harmonised better than most contestants on the X Factor so we may enter them as a duo next year Smile

Grin I love this thread. I thought from the title maybe you had a male one. We babysat a friend's cat once and they said cheerfully, oh, he's quite attached to this blanket, so don't worry if he carries it around!

He didn't, er, carry it around so much as shag the poor thing slowly over every inch of the floor, drooling, rolling his eyes and purring loudly the entire time Confused He was neutered, as well. Very odd cat, that one was.

cozietoesie · 21/09/2015 00:00

Oh Dear, Eleanor - Friday won't come soon enough.

Here you go.

EleanorAbernathy · 21/09/2015 01:32

Thanks cozie Grin

They're asleep now, after spending an hour rubbing around on the rug, singing, and waving their bums in the air.

Unfortunately Bertie, I have 2 "sexy cats". The youngest is the worst, he drags his shag bag into whichever room I'm in before getting amorous with it. Likes an audience. Both neutered boys.

cozietoesie · 21/09/2015 11:24

Just imagine what it would be like if he hadn't been neutered though, Mantra. He'd be out every night, hair and body pomaded, and with a succession of wild and wilful torties dancing attendance.

You'd never see him! Grin

EleanorAbernathy · 26/09/2015 11:31

Peace and quiet at last here - their ops went well, one of them spent all night sulking but has forgiven us now - the other wasn't bothered at all! Their collars lasted all of 2 hours ( one wriggled out by herself, and we felt sorry for Miss Sulkypants so took it off for her) but so far they don't seem interested in their wounds.

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 26/09/2015 12:08

The wounds are tiny now though, I remember ours getting done 30 years ago and it was 2-3" long.

I dont remember cones though. At least it's done now.

EleanorAbernathy · 26/09/2015 15:01

I was impressed with how small their incisions are, only a couple of cms at most. When I had my first tortie done many years ago it was much bigger - and she DEFINITELY didn't have a plastic collar.

Slightly bigger kitten had complications after hers a couple of years ago so difficult to tell but I'm sure hers was longer too. (incidentally she now keeps hissing at the little ones as they stink of vet...)

cozietoesie · 26/09/2015 16:29

Glad the ops have gone well so far. Smile

Is the bigger kitten still hissing?

EleanorAbernathy · 26/09/2015 22:19

I've not noticed any hissiness, the kittens have still been a bit dopey so the older one isn't that bothered with them.

We're going to try some scent swapping overnight and reintroduce them in the morning just to make sure Smile
