Panicking big time - he's escaped!

SmokingCat normally goes out in the garden on a harness only - he's a Bengal so I worry about him being stolen and we also live close to a busy road.

Tonight he has managed to wiggle out of the harness and escape, he could have done it anytime up to an hour ago.

I've been around looking for him and calling but nothing.

I feel so shit right now and very panicked, what the hell do I do. How will he know how to get home???

He's neutured and chipped if that makes any difference

Give him a couple of hours, he should recognise the smell of home and come back when he's hungry. Do you have a local mums' Facebook page? Maybe you could put a photo of him on there for people to look out for him if he's not back in a couple of hours. Good luck

SmokingGun · 01/09/2015 18:34

Good idea about Facebook! How will he recognise that home smell to know which way to go??

Thanks shipwrecked, I'm full on in panic mode here

Empty the contents of your vaccum cleaner around where you live. I know this sounds fucking nuts, but it will help him find home by smell. I've seen this advice posted on here and it's worked.
Whilst doing that shout cats name whilst shaking biscuits, or calling out dreamies. All the best and fingers x. All mine that have escaped have returned safely (eventually).

I've emptied the hover at the back and front of the house - thanks for the advice Rarity

I keep thinking I heard him but then when I call he doesn't meow back.

He might well be around but not responding because he doesn't want to come in yet. (It's a bit like young kids - similar to the 'If Mum can't see me, I'm invisible' - a sort of 'If I keep quiet, she can't know that I'm here'.) No response doesn't mean that he's not there - it might be that he's enjoying himself being a 'Wild Thing'. Wink

Pity it's that good time of year. A nasty winter night would have him in more quickly.

Dont panic, they are more streetwise than you think. Keep calling, keep tapping the food dish.

SmokingGun · 01/09/2015 19:35

Found him - he was stuck next door. Literally 5ft away from me Blush
Relieved now!

Marvelous. How is he?

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 01/09/2015 20:16

Great news!! Smile

SmokingGun · 01/09/2015 20:16

He looks very please with himself. I brought him back, he jumped down, ate his food and then pushed me out of his space on the sofa and is now sleeping!! Grin
