My cat's tail seems injured

I have an indoor 10 month old Maine Coon.

Today I noticed I hadn't seen him about for a while and then found that my 4 year old had accidentally shut him in the bathroom. He must have been in there for about 30-40 minutes. He often disappears upstairs for a nap in the empty bath so it wasn't unusual not to see him for that amount of time.

Later this evening I noticed that his tail is drooping.
He usually walks around with it held straight up in the air.
I ran my hand along it gently and he did a strange miaow that I'd not heard before.

He is eating and drinking and has been playing with a ball and has managed to jump up his 7 foot cat tree.

Should I take him to the vets tomorrow or is it ok to wait until Monday?
It is DSs birthday tomorrow and we will be at the party in the morning.
But I could go to out of hours in the afternoon.
I know I sound really callous and horrible for not taking him straight away.
I'm really worried about him.
He is currently sleeping in his cat tree Sad

Take him tomorrow if at all possible. Can he move it at all? He may have a bite wound or he may have somehow broken his tail.

He is an only cat so it can't be a bite wound.
He can move it he was swishing it when he was perched in his tree.
What will they do if it's broken? His tail is so so beautiful and fluffy. Would hate him to lose it Sad

This is him in the bath. Not today btw.

Tail injuries an be really painful, and a relatively minor injury can cause the cat not to move it's tail. Without proper assessment it is impossible to tell whether it will end in amputation or not. I have a cat whose tail had to be amputated she has other ways of expressing her opinion now.

Ok thanks. He has been moving it today swishing it when watching birds.
He's also managed to pee and poo so looked like he can empty his bladder/bowels.
He's jumping around like normal and climbing his cat tree but still holding it strangely. I'm going to take him into the vet first thing tomorrow.
He's eaten all of his food and has been drinking water too.
