He won't go to toilet :/

Brought my lad home yesterday. He's got 2 litter trays with the same litter as the rescue place but he won't go.

He literally hasn't had a wee or poo since he arrived and I'm worrying about him!

I've put him in them after eating and when he's napped but he just gets straight back out.

Any tips? I don't want him uncomfortable.

Don't worry. I've known cats last out for around 36 hours or more. He knows where the tray is and will go eventually. It just seems to be what cats often do (or rather don't do) in new surroundings.

Oh thank you, good to hear it's not unusual. Wish I had a bladder that big!

Maybe he's shy? A hooded litter tray can help with this or putting the trays in a more out-of-the-way place. At this stage though, I really wouldn't worry too much.

72hours no eating, drinking, seeing or pooing is the record here.

We brought our boy home and used the same food and litter he had been used to.
He didn't refuse to go, instead he went wherever he fancied. After some advice on here I changed his litter and he was instantly litter trained.

Cats are weird.

He'd probably never liked it so on coming to a new house thought to do a Start As You Mean To Go On.

And you thought you were training him ? Grin

PS - any tray use, weve ?

wevecomeonholidaybymistake · 12/08/2015 21:10

Hope still nothing Confused

He's been farting and stinks! He's not eaten much today but seems happy enough.

I may buy some different litter tomorrow see if that helps. Bloody cat is costing me a fortune!

What I did was repeatedly put missy into the box and sit with her smoothing her and giving alot of attention.

wevecomeonholidaybymistake · 12/08/2015 21:37

Thanks Piper will try that.

They like the ultra clumping when they are kittens, it's smaller grains so its softer on their paws.

Good stuff. Smile During the night? And was it a pee or a poo?

Either way, he's got impressive innards. It's also surely a sign that he's settling now - he must be so much more comfortable with things emptied for him and he's shown that he knows what to do with his tray which is always ressuring.

cozietoesie · 13/08/2015 10:32

*reassuring

(I clearly need more caffeine.)

wevecomeonholidaybymistake · 13/08/2015 12:39

He did a wee about 5am, I woke up to him scratting at the litter. He did a poo a bit later on. He's certainly feeling comfortable, little tyke had a fun night attacking my feet Grin

greenhill · 13/08/2015 13:21

So he didn't pop then? Grin

greenhill · 14/08/2015 08:00

Is he more settled today?

wevecomeonholidaybymistake · 14/08/2015 08:50

Very settled. He's such an affectionate little thing and it's so lovely being woken by headbutts and purrs Smile
