Weird things your cat does

Mine will back up to a door or window and kick it with her back leg. It will sound like someone is knocking.

She also 'washes' the windows with her paws, except she'll do it on horizontal smooth surfaces too.

Does yours do this? Any insights into why?
What else do they do?

Yet another sign of weirdness is the fact one of mine dislikes dreamies and most other similar treats. Bacon or pasta though are wonderful.

RoosterCogburn · 09/08/2015 21:20

Steals things, - at the moment she is obsessed by a little silver seal ornament that lives on my welsh dresser - she seeks it out and plays with it.

Jumps on the bed at night when I am asleep and pats my face until I wake up. As soon as I awake she buggers off.

We used to have a cat who adored new shoes - if I had a new pair he would go wild and fling himself at my feet making ecstatic miaows. I used to feel obliged to buy new footwear on a regular basis just to keep him happy.

msrisotto · 09/08/2015 21:21

Ah yes, food. She doesn't like fish or chicken. Or anything that isn't Sheba or kibble.

Also, there are two spots in the house that she is extremely interested in. One is a spot on the wall and the other is a corner in the kitchen. She'll sniff and lick the spot for no discernible reason.

Mine dribbles when stroked, a lot, and shakes and sprays it everywhere, most revolting. Also does the panic stricken staring into the hallway of an evening as if a burglar has snuck in, has had us going many a time, but no longer, daft critter. And don't even get me started on the food blindness, I have to lift her up and push her nose towards the dish until she acknowledges there is food in the bowl and begrudgingly eats it. I want two more after we move next year but dh says she won't tolerate others ......

tangledyarn · 09/08/2015 22:44

One of mine loves to frantically suck on my clothes whenever she gets the chance..she was a stray and I'm assuming taken from mum to early.

LavenderRain · 09/08/2015 23:21

tangledour 10 week old kitten was sucking my dressing gown this morning and kneading with her paws. Its very cute but a bit weird. Felt like I was breast feeding her Confused

msrisotto · 10/08/2015 09:48

Lavender - Yes! Mine doesn't do the sucking thing but she will knead me, moving all around until she finds my boobs and will settle on them. Claws in the nipple is not the cutsey stroking experience I had in mind when I got her I must say.

My tabby can't resist whistling. Even if she doesn't want to move, she will go to anyone who is whistling, sit on their lap and purr. She does the same if someone is crying.
My calico sounds like a sheep rather than a cat when she miaows.

smoggy · 10/08/2015 10:08

Our crazy rescue girl loves coming in from a wet garden and takes a run up so she can skid on the floor with wet paws. Thought it was an accident at first but she does it every time it rains and has been known to go back out to re wet her paws daft thing.

RabbitsarenotHares · 10/08/2015 13:17

Our lass has a catflap into the utility room, then goes outside through the window (live in the middle of nowhere, so having a widely open window is no problem).

At least once a day (though usually more often) it is expected that I will go to watch her jump up on to the windowsill. Usually I am summoned with a miaow, occassionally she'll just sit on the floor and wait for me to follow her. Then, obviously, I have to open the door for her rather than expect her to use her catflap.

If I go into the utility room but don't give her my full attention (eg wash my hands at the sink there) she'll wait until I am focussed on her. Then she'll jump, and I have to tell her she's a clever girl.

She is quite capable at going out by herself, and she usually does go out without an audience, but at least once a day we have to go through this ritutal of her doing this in front of me. Very strange!

LavenderRain · 10/08/2015 13:20

smoggy Grin that's so cute

magpie we used to have a tortoiseshell cat who loved whistling. She would be asleep in her basket on top of the wardrobe don't ask! and DH would whistle her down like a snake charmer, was so funny.

CrimsonSunrise · 10/08/2015 13:22

One of our cats dashes in through the cat flap, across the kitchen then leaps up the inderstairs cupboard door, lands back on the floor and races back out again Hmm
Same cat also comes and gives you a high five if you ask him to haha.

Writtenbyme · 10/08/2015 13:27

One of my felines loves to be swept by the broom. Have absolutely no idea how this was discovered but if I get the broom out she comes running and throws herself in front of it to be swept around the room.

msrisotto · 10/08/2015 13:40

Grin these are brilliant!

Lavender nice to hear it's not just mine! I wonder what it is about whistling? My tabby is a rescue and it's one of the many quirks she came with.

Loving this thread!

spanky2 · 10/08/2015 15:54

When I scratch his itchy spot on his back he licks me in return!
The other boy likes me to chase him round the house or garden. He has specific meow and scamper to indicate he wants to play!

loraflora · 10/08/2015 18:00

Mine used to do the suckling on fabric thing but hasn't for a while. Maybe it's because it's summer - her favoured objects were woolly jumpers and fleecy dressing gowns.

One of her other weird habits which she hadn't done for a while but did this morning is sitting on my pillow, curled around my head before I get up in the morning. It's like wearing a furry, purring hat.

cantbelievemyeyes · 10/08/2015 19:48

Love my old girl and her little quirks:

-Hugging shoes and stuffing her face in them
-Rolling around in ecstacy in worn underwear
-Licking plastic wrap/ carriers bags etc
-Eating unattended/ emtpy bowls of yoghurt or ice cream
-Destroying stuff when she's hungry. She wanders around bashing on doors and attacking plants until she gets her dinner.
-Stealing flannels and towels to make a bed. She always manages to straighten them out very neatly.
-She loves being carried around like a baby, and being stroked on the head and neck very roughly. Never heard noises like it.

gamerchick · 10/08/2015 20:02

She wakes me up in the morning by lying on the floor and clicking at my bed then leading me and leading me out of the room. She'll chase me to bed by clicking furiously at the rug and going to the bottom of the stairs looking back when I get up to stop her. She'll heave herself out of bed in the middle of the night if i need the lav and give me hurry the fuck glares and escort me back to bed.

I'm 40 man Angry

greyleaf · 10/08/2015 20:04

my friend put some bells on the backdoor to alert her if her daughter was trying to get out her cat used to ring the bells when he needed the toilet

MyBlackCat · 10/08/2015 20:10

My cat loves her tummy being tickled but only in a particular way. She jumps on me and faces away. She then cocks her leg and I have to tickle her tummy from behind but through her back legs. If I try and move my hand so I come in from the slide she just cocks her leg again so I have to have my hand between her legs. Proper wierdoSmile

She also loves kneading my fluffy dressing gown, she purrs her head off whilst doing it. I off course do not put it out especially for her to do thisGrin

Gettothechopper · 15/08/2015 20:14

My 18 year old black and white girl likes to suck the end of her own tail. Always has, ever since she came to live with us when she was 2 years old.

ManorMouse · 15/08/2015 23:13

Mine has a special soft cry she uses as "Only me!" when she comes in through the bedroom window in the middle of the night. She pauses on the dresser just inside the window, calls to me and then jumps onto the bed.

If there's another cat outside the bedroom window or up on the roof, she'll spring from the bed but makes sure she 'accidentally' uses my legs as a jumping-off point so I'm awake and ready to provide 'muscle' for her while she's shouting abuse at the intruder. I usually utter something like "Leave 'im, 'e's not worth it" so that the intruder cat knows I'm there and doesn't come any closer.

She spends her day asleep on the bed and I know better than to disturb her or else she'll get up and follow me about the house stomping her little feet and shouting loudly in a "See how you like it then" manner.
