Do not feed your cat chicken legs

We lost our beautiful cat Lexy traumatically this afternoon. She choked on a chicken bone. We tried to get her to the vet but she died in the car. I've had her since she was 1, before I met dh and had the children. Sad

I'm really sorry for your loss OP.

RIP little Lexy x

Oh Kreesh, you'll be feeling it more right now, of course you will. You know her usual routine. I had my boy pts nearly three years ago now. I used to lay on the rug next to him on his blanket and sing to him. They leave an aching hole in your heart, you have my absolute sympathy. Go cuddle into your DH, he will need it. I feel truly awful for you all. Xx

Fackinell, you are right. My poor dd took some moulting fur from Lexy's body and put it in a box in her room. can't imagine ever not crying about this. I think the traumatic way in which it occurred is going to make it so much harder to cope with. I feel sorry that my dc had to witness it all. I'm going to cuddle dh as you suggest - he too was in tears earlier. Thank you for your lovely words x

Kreesh I for one am very grateful for you posting your story about your poor little Lexy. I didn't know about this as I am sure lots of others didn't too. Thankyou and Im so sorry. I lost one of my cats a year ago and it is heartbreaking. x

Oh that's so sad. Thank you for thinking of others in your grief and posting here to alert others. I'd heard it but wasn't sure if it was really true. Sadly, I guess it is. So hard to know what to say, I'd be devastated if this happened to my cat, they are in our lives for such a short time, I m sure your kitty was well loved for all the years you had her Hugs to you and your family.

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/07/2015 22:35

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry, how awful.
I know not to give mine cooked bones but have more than once had to run after one who has stolen a bone.
Wishing you all the best.

They wind their paws round your heart, don't they? I am so sorry for the sorrow you and your family are feeling tonight.

DramaAlpaca · 20/07/2015 22:40

So sorry Kreesh, and all of you who've lost your lovely cats Flowers

TalkinPeace · 20/07/2015 22:45

I learned about the risk of cooked chicken bones from a Blue Peter Annual in the early 1970s

Awful that it has not been regularly reinforced since.

Cry as much as you need to.
Anybody who says you are being soft is just heartless.

Butterflywings168 · 20/07/2015 22:49

Aw I'm sorry Thanks
Yeah it's cooked bones. I only knew that from researching raw food hahaha good luck to me getting Madame away from the Felix and Sheba Hmm It should be more publicised imo.

I hope you are all getting some sleep. It will hit you over and over again in all kinds of unexpected ways for a while but one day you will think of her with a smile. You sound such a loving family, she was a lucky girl to have you. Xx

Kreeshsheesh · 21/07/2015 06:24

Fackinell thanks for the kind thoughts. I haven't slept really but luckily the others have. Keep going over it all in my head. I know it will get easier to think of Lexy as she was in time.
