One of my cats - 14 yo, fluffy but not crazily so - is really suffering today. Anyone have any genius ideas how to keep him cool?

Obvs he has lots of water in lots of places (which he's been drinking), but he seems to be finding his usual cool spots not enough and he seems at a bit of a loss. I've just laid down some damp newspaper on a shady patio for him, but he looked at me like I'm an idiot.

My mum has an elderly indoor Ragdoll and when it's very hot he goes in his cat tent , with the fan blowing at him and pretends he's at Glastonbury .

Well done Seniorboy! Here is his apprentice Mr C refusing to try the damp towel. Then still asking for bellyrub.

My youngest cat seems fine. My other one is still AWOL.

only just come across this thread having just started one on the same subject. my kitty is only 7 months old and has no energy. she is usually running around like a maniac at this time but instead fluffed out on the floor, legs & arms open splat. have tried one of the posters idea of a damp/wet towel, put it on the floor, yet to see if she will go on it though.....i feel guilt that it is so hot, worrying that she will think it is my fault (how ridiculous...)

Try stroking her with a dripping wet hand, jeans - that seems to work.

(Seniorboy clearly blames me for it by the way - Sorry if that's no consolation. Grin)

My two, short-haired but mostly black, have been flollopped about in various paces during the day. Kitchen floor works well, as does under the trampoline (under the trampoline is good in all weathers apparently). They do seem slightly put out by it all.

I suspect I will still have one of them attempting to sleep rammed into my crotch tonight though.

Huntercat and Feistycat both appear to have moved into next doors front hedgerow as a perfect shade and cool arrangement. I don't see them all day but late afternoon they saunter over covered in foliage for some food. Feistycat has never stayed out so long and in the warm evenings I go to bed leaving them on the patio watching the bats with a rather energised gaze....

I'm used to seeing a lot less of Huntercat in nice weather, but Feistycat normally sleeps in my airing cupboard so this is rather a change for her!
