Really worried ..

Had my female neutered in Monday & since then her behaviour has been beyond odd & the only way I can put it is she is petrified I just don't know what of .
I did as the vet said and made her a space up in a quiet room while she recovers after 4 hours of screaming I gave in and gave her roam of the house I stupidly didn't lock the cat flap as I thought their was no way of her getting through with a giant cone on her head , I was wrong and she has been cowering under a table in the garden since yesterday and every time I attempt to go near her to bring he in she runs and hides.

I have had to put food outside for her and some blankets in a box under the table .

She has always been a bit shy but this just isn't her and I haven't a clue what to do , she won't let her brother comfort her either which is odd as they are inseparable .

I feel awful and I can't figure out what to do as I've never seen her so scared at all , she has a check up on Thursday if I can catch her but she can't stay out until then

Please don't flame me

Of course you won't be flamed.

Is she still wearing the cone or has she managed to get rid of it?

fenneltea · 03/06/2015 08:06

I wonder if it is the cone that she is frightened of? I've never used one on any of my neutered females.

Would she go into a carry cage if you put food in it? You could then shut the door while she is in there, the other option would be to borrow or buy a trap.

I'd also try putting the food out and just sitting quietly beside it reading a book or something and speaking soothingly to her. If she's hungry she might pluck up courage to come out while you are there.

Hoppinggreen · 03/06/2015 10:14

I think it my be the cone as well, be never used one for any of my cats.as far as she is concerned there is a strange thing attached to her neck.
If you can get near enough take it off and see if that helps

thecatneuterer · 03/06/2015 10:22

I also think it must be the cone. I've never known any cats react to being neutered. But it's very common to react to a cone. We also never use cones following neutering. I agree it would be a good idea to take it off.

shaska · 03/06/2015 11:54

Cone! They think it's something grabbing them/attacking them - and of course it follows them wherever they go which makes it worse.

Don't worry, she'll be ok. I thought fennel's advice about bringing food and sitting very quietly was good.

Elephanfuckingtastic · 03/06/2015 13:46

So I can take the cone off ?

Managed to get her in eventually but she broke the cat flap so got back out .

My partner is trying to get her again , have tried sitting & waiting which is easier said than done as it's chucking it down where I am .

The vets I took her to removed her womb etc which I'm told only a few vets do which is why I were so worried about taking the cone off

I've had cats for around 30 years and had every single one neutered. The only time I was offered a cone was with my current cats when I had them done 2 years ago and I didn't use them.
Never been a problem for us and they've all healed fine

thecatneuterer · 03/06/2015 14:57

They all have their wombs removed. That's part of spaying. We never put cones on. But then we do internal stitching. If she has very obvious external stitches you'll need to make sure she's not chewing at them if you take the cone off.

BettyCatKitten · 03/06/2015 20:48

I've never put a cone on my neutered females, none have attempted to interfere with the wound, apart from licking when grooming. Hope she is ok, bless her, and you Flowers

cozietoesie · 03/06/2015 20:51

I'd take it off and see how she reacts. Being outside with all the possibility of infection out there is arguably worse for her than being in and doing some licking - and there's much difference between some cleansing licks (which are to be expected) and actually worrying at the stitches.

cozietoesie · 04/06/2015 09:55

How is she?

Elephanfuckingtastic · 04/06/2015 22:20

She is better now the cone is off but still quite anxious , the vet says the stitches are healing well

That sounds fairly positive. Is she inside again?

Elephanfuckingtastic · 04/06/2015 22:47

She is inside most of the time but nips out every so often , if I try & keep her in she gets too stressed
