One of our boys is missing - is there anything else I should be doing?

We went away overnight on Saturday - gone less than 24 hours. One of our cats (brothers, 18m old) has not been seen since. He's a rather skittish homeboy, neutered and not out for more than 2 hours at a time generally.

I've walked the streets calling him at random times, made signs and put fliers through doors asking people to check their sheds/garages. I've also posted on our town's facebook page

I'm going to call the vets tomorrow just to let them know he's missing (he's chipped).

Is there anything else I should do? I'm just so sad - my DS and the cat's brother are bereft :(

Hi Bizkit, no still nothing here either. I'm going to put up more posters today to remind people.

Also a friend suggested taking a poster into the sorting office which I've done so may be worth trying that too?

It's so hard isn't it? My cat has a brother and they are devoted to one another. He's become really clingy and wanders round the house after me, miaowing. It's so sad :(

I also rang the council yesterday and they take any dead cats they find to the animal hospital and they haven't got him which has given me hope that he is still out there somewhere.

There's a comment on the vet's fb page saying that someone has called in at my children's school asking staff to look out for a cat like this one. They have Ofsted in today so don't think they'll appreciate me calling them with cat queries Grin. I'll ask them once the inspectors have gone. I bet we'll have to say goodbye to him. It's across a busy road but not far away, so I reckon he could easily have come from around there.

Bizkit · 03/06/2015 11:42

Yeh it is hard Odd, Daisy is my 8yr old daughter cat aswell, she seems ok but I don't think she has contemplated the fact that she could be gone forever, we go out on our bikes and search around and put posters out etc and I think she sees it like a treasure hunt and probably expects to find her eventually Sad

I have two other cats, didnt think they were bothered but in the past 4 or 5 days my other female has started acting weird and being very clingy aswell and meowing alot and cant seem to settle, she and my male cat have been fighting alot past few days aswell, not sure what that could mean

Christophewouldgetit · 05/06/2015 12:54

Any news lovely ladies? Really hoping two much missed cats have found their ways home!

and bollard - was the enquiry at the school about the little cat you found?

oddfodd · 05/06/2015 14:12

No nothing but his chip was never registered to me it seems. RSPCA made a mistake. So everyone should check with petlog that their details are up to date.

Hello odd ... I'll keep everything crossed for you, sending big hugs.
My lovely boy has just returned after 6 days 'on the run' ... it was awful.
My dd's friend put a message on facebook - her cat has just turned up at her house after being missing for 4 years!
The vets do say that cats can suddenly just go off hunting out of the blue and be away for weeks!

timtam23 · 05/06/2015 23:29

Oh no oddfodd - was his chip registered to anyone/anywhere else at all?

Still hoping for some returning cats very soon. Come on cats!

chockbic · 06/06/2015 11:29

The little blighters out gallivanting.

Your mothers are worried Confused

QueenOfTheSlipstream · 06/06/2015 11:38

Really hope you find him, it's horrible. Mine was gone for 9 days a while ago and it was awful. But she found her way home :-).

I collected lots of happy-ending stories during those nine days, the record was a friend of mine whose came wandering back after 5 YEARS! He's just moved in to another house a couple of streets away, then one day decided to move back...!

Bollard · 06/06/2015 17:02

Oddfodd, sorry your cat still hasn't come home.
Christophe - no, it wasn't "our" cat. He's still with us, curled up in his basket. I've just started a thread asking for opinions on how long I should wait before getting him microchipped and "adopting" him.

oddfodd · 06/06/2015 17:58

No his chip was just registered to the RSPCA - they hadn't assigned it to me but they have now (and have also logged both boys' chips with PetLog which I urge you all to do in case you're ever in a similar situation).

Yesterday's leafleting yielded a couple more leads - both elderly ladies who 'feed' random cats (and in one case, shut them in their greenhouse overnight Hmm ). I don't think either of them has Bubbles but honestly the idea that someone's decided to 'adopt' him is really pissing me off.

Why can't people get their own sodding cats rather than nicking other people's? [mad]

I don't think I could bear five years. Two weeks is bad enough.

It's the kittens' birthday on Wednesday. They'll be two.

Agree oddfod. I remember when I was a child our first cat did just move in with us. But my mum went and spoke to previous owner and she was happy to let her come to us if that was what she wanted. Very sweet of her. Lovely ginger girl :-).

The five years was amazing, of course they'd long given up hope. Really hope your boy is back soon.

Massive bump - he has been found!! :) :) :) :) :)

After fourteen very long weeks, he turned up nearly 8 miles away. He has been hanging around a very small group of houses in among a load of fields and a nature reserve since Friday so when he was still there after the weekend, a lady took him to her local vet to be scanned.

He's very thin and has fleas but other than that, seems in reasonable health.

His brother is a bit bemused and hissed at him but I assume they'll settle down.

Good heavens! That's wonderful news. How on earth can he have got there???

oddfodd · 17/08/2015 15:31

I don't know if he's just carried on wandering because he got so lost or maybe he got in the back of a tradeperson's van or something? Goodness knows

FreckledLeopard · 17/08/2015 15:37

Wow - that's such good news! You must be thrilled.

My cousin's cat turned up after 10 years missing, so it goes to show that there are happy endings!

PeterParkerSays · 17/08/2015 15:42

Good grief, how's he got 8 miles away? At least his chip was registered to you so the vet could get him back to you.

Sorry he wasn't back for his birthday, but at least you've got him back before the winter.

oddfodd · 17/08/2015 17:02

He's just weed on the sofa. This is going to be fun with a new puppy too :o

Rollypoly100 · 17/08/2015 18:18

What fantastic news! What a relief. I dread my old boy wandering off and not coming back. I'm sure there are lots of feline snacks on offer to celebrate his return!

timtam23 · 17/08/2015 18:48

Oddfodd that'sthat's absolutely amazing news! How wonderful! And how thoughtful of the lady to take him to the vet.

I really hope he settles down again with his brother & the puppy.

oddfodd · 17/08/2015 20:05

He's a very, very hungry boy! I'm taking it slow though because I think he might just be sick/have diarrhoea if I give him too much. He's very farty since he came home.

OP posts:
FatherReboolaConundrum · 17/08/2015 20:16

That's brilliant news! Cake Cake Cake (but none for farty cat) Grin.

googoodolly · 18/08/2015 09:43

I'm so glad you found him OP! (farts aside!)

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 18/08/2015 09:51

Fabulous news, it's amazing how a bit of weeping and farting can be forgiven for having him back Grin thank goodness for micro chipping
