New thread just to show off our lovely tortie. She is not scared at all, spent about 2 hrs under the sofa but then came out, ate, drank water and now decided to explore the other floors of the house with dd (8) following her. Very inquisitive and affectionate temperament

Thats lovely :)

She's gorgeous! Glad she's settling in well.

We're finally moving to cat friendly house in a few weeks, so will be adopting a rescue cat (or two!). I can't wait. Smile

tacal · 16/05/2015 17:40

She is lovely. I have a tortie who has a lovely nature, she is my 6 year old ds' best friend. I hope your new cat settles in well. What is her name?

Pipbin · 16/05/2015 17:40

She's very beautiful.

OTheHugeManatee · 16/05/2015 17:51

What a gorgeous cat! What's her name?

Fleurdelise · 16/05/2015 17:53

She's been named Tilly and she is 14 months old! Dd adores her already Smile

She's beautiful. Do you know how she ended up in a rescue? I just can't understand how such gorgeous cats can be unwanted. So happy that she's found a loving home with you.

Fleurdelise · 16/05/2015 18:02

She was in a house with another 11 years old cat, I understand they wouldn't get along and a baby came along and they decided to only keep the older cat. They gave this one away because apparently she wasn't getting enough attention and she required more.

It sounds like it has all worked out for the best then, And she's going to have a much happier life with you. She looks like the sort of cat who will have you under her paw in no time. Such a sweet face.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/05/2015 18:10

She's a gorgeous little thing. Torties are usually quite feisty.

Fleurdelise · 16/05/2015 18:17

Apparently her dad was a ragdoll but she takes after her mum. She will be happy with us I am sure as I have wanted a cat for years and so did my kids. We just waited for them to be old enough to understand what it involves.

She looks just like my tortie Margot who is a very sweet cat indeed. Very gentle soul. Like a pp said, I can't imagine why she was over-looked before, she's lovely. Congrats Tilly and OP!

BettyCatKitten · 18/05/2015 08:24

Ahh, she's lovelySmile

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 18/05/2015 08:43

She's gorgeous!

Fleurdelise · 18/05/2015 09:06

Thank you all!

Slight problem: she was in dried food previously and we bought her the same food however she would eat any. Then I got some pouches (Purina and Felix) and she eats some but just until the jelly in them goes and then she stops. She eats some Dreamies fed by hand by the kids but not sure that is the answer.

She is a bit skinny, not ill looking but I'd like her to eat a bit more. Am I allowed to give her food like uncooked chicken or anything like that which may appeal to her?

she was on dried food and wouldn't eat any I meant - sorry I am on my phone

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/05/2015 09:11

Try a selection of single buy pouches/trays. Don't rule out aldi or lidl trays, excellent quality.

That way you can find out what she likes.

I find if he eats the jelly but not the meat then it's poor quality meat.

Fleurdelise · 18/05/2015 09:12

I was also reading the thread below "what to feed a skinny cat" and I saw scrambled egg as a suggestion, is it ok to try her with that? I am a bit baffled as last night I was cooking dinner for the family and I was expecting her to ask for food (I was cooking chicken) but she didn't seem to care.

TranquilityofSolitude · 18/05/2015 09:15

My cat (previously a stray, been with us for a couple of years) shows no interest in human food at all. I don't think he realises it's actually food. He also prefers the jelly to the meat in the pouches.

Fleurdelise · 18/05/2015 09:15

Thank you Fluffy I'll try the lidl ones, is it ok to keep changing until she finds the one she likes? The lady at the rescue told me to be careful with changing her food because she may get an upset tummy.

Also is it better to have her on wet food or dried from a health point of view?

OP posts:
Fleurdelise · 18/05/2015 09:18

The thing is, she keeps following us around the house in search of something when is dinner time, when I show her the food she sniffs it and off she goes. Is like she is trying to say "I am hungry but I am not eating that".

Also do I leave food out all day considering she is skinny or do I give her food just morning and evening?

OP posts:
samsonagonistes · 18/05/2015 09:27

She sounds like a relative of our cats, who demand human food but then never eat it, live off cat biscuits, but demand wet food so that they can lick the jelly off it.

If she's not greedy I'd leave biscuits down all day, she may be the kind of cat that prefers to graze like ours. And she might also, while she's new, prefer to eat when she's not being watched

Miltonmaid · 18/05/2015 10:38

I'd leave biscuits down all the time. My cat is quite fussy, she has no interest in human food at all. When we first got her she would only eat if we stroked her, as soon as we stopped stroking her she'd stop eating. She comes and gets us when she's hungry and we have to take her to her bowl and then stroke her head until she starts eating. But I know when we're out she can do it herself . Always leave water down if you're feeding dry food. We use purina one, she won't touch the fish ones though.

Fleurdelise · 18/05/2015 10:44

Thank you all! She'll be on her own for a few hours today so we left out dried food as well as her pouch left over from this morning and fresh water. I'll see how she did when we are back home.

She is such a happy cat otherwise and even DH who was not convinced we need a cat fell in love with her, built her a scratching post yesterday and went to get her different food last night because she wasn't eating much Grin
