DH and cat allergy

DH has become allergic to our cats and wants to get them rehomed Sad
The cats are almost 8 and we all love them. They're now confined to the kitchen but he's still reacting to them. He refuses to take any medication for his allergy which I think is a bit daft cos it might help.
Any suggestions?

Is he sure it is an allergy to the days?

My hay fever kicked in about 3 weeks ago and it seems terrible this year.

Has a Dr confirmed it is the cats? Pointless to rehome them if you aren't sure they are causing these issues.

SmokingGun · 11/05/2015 07:34

I meant cats not days!

MyCatIsAGit · 11/05/2015 07:47

My DH is allergic to cats and lots of other things, he's been tested, so we have cats as he's got to take antihistamines every day anyway.

Petal cleanse and lots of hoovering helps. DH always washes hands after touching cats.

We went through the re homing thing with DSS who was convinced he's allergic to the cat and so wouldn't come round, he was tested and he's not, he's allergic to house dust and pollen. Not cats. Cue reprieve for the cat and more dusting for us.

I think he should check it's the cat.

The allergens are tiny & stuck to everything - walls, paintwork etc and as soon as you clean they will be back. Antihistamines or rehome. I bet its hay fever

mojitomo · 11/05/2015 08:54

thanks for all your responses. I'll ask him to get tested first before rehoming them. And try to get him to take some antihistamines. Hmm

I bet it's hayfever too.

RubbishMantra · 11/05/2015 18:11

Another one who thinks it's most likely hay-fever. I've got sneezy the last few weeks.

Tell him to stop whinging, and at least try the antihistamines. It's unlikely he's developed a cat allergy to them after living with them for so long. Does he like the cats?

mojitomo · 11/05/2015 19:39

He does quite like them but less so as allergy has worsened. He didn't have pets as a child so I don't think he gets the whole kitty love thing. I'm going to ask him to get tested cos no way am I rehoming the cats if it's not them causing it.

Bollocking bollocks SGB I have snorted a small piece of jelly baby into my nasal cavity after your "Furty shit machine" comment. Angry

Furry, even

Corygal · 11/05/2015 22:05

I am hideously allergic to my fat tabby Mr Cory and he sleeps on my face. It's fine, just take AHs.

SolidGoldBrass · 11/05/2015 22:23

People who are allergic to animal dander quite often react badly to antihistamine as well (not to mention the potential side effects). And allergies can worsen/change/develop. I used to have a much bigger problem with dogs, then my allergies diminished when I was PG, now cats are a much bigger problem.

And for all those of you calling the poor sod selfish, just imagine being unable to breathe properly, constant sneezing, swollen sore eyes, nettlerash all over your hands, arms, probably on your face and torso as well all the fucking time in your own home because your family won't get rid of the fucking pets.

Yep, that's me! Would still rather have my kitties :)
