Poorly siamese - any vets about who can advise?

My poor boy is poorly Sad He was sick on Wednesday, but seemed ok. Then he was sick several times in the night and had diarrhea on Thursday. He ate nothing all day, just drank water, but was sick afterwards. Friday I took him to the vets. He hasn't got a temperature, she couldn't feel anything in his tummy, his gums were nice and pink, but his heart was racing, probably due to stress of going to the vets. She gave me Pro kollin, metronidazole, omeprazole, none of which I can really get into him. She asked me to bring him back today, Saturday, which I did.

He's no better, just sleeps, doesn't want anything to eat and isn't drinking either. I'm syringing water into his mouth throughout the day. She said he isn't very dehydrated yet. I've to call them tomorrow if he's no b

etter - and I don't think he will be. I've bought all sorts of treat food, all expensive tiny packs of chicken in jelly, salmon in jelly etc, to tempt him, but he won't even sniff them.

The vet said the next step would be to xray him in case there's a blockage. But would he have diarrhea if it was a blockage?

I'm really worried about him. Usually he's chasing his step brother around, following me around the house, eats non stop .. Now he's just sleeping Sad

Have you tried heating the food to body temperature?

I've been told at the vet school that Siamese are kind of notorious for not eating if they're at all unwell if that's reassuring.

Keep him warm - both my Siamese lost their body temperature when poorly & agree about warm food - recovery pate is good for a poorly puss

He does like it warm, he sleeps in bed with me under the duvet Smile

Your vet sounds a little too relaxed. He needs blood tests and admitting for fluid therapy.
He could have any number of things wrong and three days of not eating is time to intervene. If I saw him he would be admitted , bloods, fluids, and a feeding tube if needed.
Do not leave until Monday.

I have just watched him change before my very eyes! He sniffed at the food, had a little, then a little more, then a big drink, then he sat for a bit, as if wondering if he was going to feel sick again, then he had another drink, then a scratch on his special scratching carpet, then started following me around and purring, sat on my chest and kneaded a bit. Now he's curled up in bed with me.

I was so worried and obviously I will be keeping a close eye on him still and if he's sick again I'll call the vet immediately. I can't bear to see him so ill, when usually he's such a presence in the house, so alive and interfering in everything.

Vet directly if he's sick again - and I would be thinking about another one. She sounds altogether too relaxed - especially with a Siamese. (I don't like to be 'breedist' but they can just give up if they're feeling bad.)

As to the diarrhoea and a blockage? It's possible depending on the amount. You can get 'seepage' of diarrhoea-type fluids round the outside of a lump. (I'd then be thinking about why he had a blockage.)

On a positive note, his behaviour this evening sounds better I think. Has he used his tray this evening?

It might be worth getting an x-ray done to check for blockages somewhere. Our boy-cat was being sick, weight loss, hiding away. He had a lump that was partially occluding his esophagus

He's 6 cozie.

He used his tray yesterday afternoon, had diarrhea.

He's still asleep, slept all night in bed with me.

He does chew things a lot, although I his favourites (gloves and socks and similar). The only thing he's been chewing recently is one of his toys and I don't think he's swallowed any thing.

He's not losing weight, weighs 5 kg and quite rounded Blush and heavy.

I'll be watching him like a hawk and will go straight to the vet if he's showing any signs again.

Thanks for all the advice. I love him so much, couldn't bear anything to happen to him.

I'm not sure if he's used the tray in the night whilst I was asleep. He certainly hasn't had diarrhea since yesterday afternoon. He seems happy at the moment, he would be sleeping now anyway. I don't think he's back to normal, as he not asking for food all the time! but he's a lot better than he was. I'm loath to give him his medicine, I don't want to upset him, also I'm not sure that he needs the medicine prescribed.

Glad he's feeling better.

Is the Pro Kolin a paste that mixes in with his food? If so, that should be easy to get into him. The pre-biotics will help restore the balance of good bacteria in his gut.

Yes. I have managed to get some of the Prokollin paste into him, also most of the suspension and capsule. He's not talking to me now though.

He has been in his litter tray, a little diarrhea still, not much, pale.

Hi Katy, thanks for asking, he's fine now. He started to come round the day I last posted here, eating a little, then a bit more .. Now he's back to his normal siamese self, I'm glad to say. Hope that doesn't happen again, he scared me!
