Changing dry food (and which ones better)

I know this had probably been done to death buy my 10 month old currently has Royal Canin kitten. He came to us with a bag so I just stuck to it.

He drinks lots (always drinks after eating and frequently just has a drink) and eats wet on the occasions there's some available (probably around three times a week depending on what we eat)

I'm only considering changing because I was just down the pet shop to get a new bag but they were out of stock. So the opportunity is there as the pet shop stocks a lot of different brands.

Is Royal Canin decent? Should I change?

(There still a few days food left at home)

Oh he's neutered and goes out, if that makes a difference.

Royal Canin is fine. Applaws is good, as is Arden Grange.

Won't he eat wet food though? Wet is generally better (in terms of bladder/kidney/crystals - particularly for males) than dry - even the very best dry.

I use applaws dry (80% protein) and was using applaws tins too- but it was getting so expensive Confused

So now I feed applaws dry and butchers tinned chicken/beef as they are the next best thing I could find protein % wise. Applaws tins are 75% and butchers are nearly 50%. I just bought 6 tins from asda for £2.50!

Obviously butchers is a complete meal, so I only give a small portion alongside the dry.

He eats wet, chicken etc I might keep some of the meat/fish from food we have. Unless it's not suitable (or all eaten) so it's not everyday.

He'd drink a lot of water, dish gets refill twice a day.

Mine get Applaws dry, but seem to be getting bored with it. Funny, because when they were on Royal Canin before, they decided they hated it. Ran out of Applaws recently, so bought an emergency bag of Canin. Which they decided was The Best Thing Ever.

They get 2 wet meals of Cosma, to ensure their water intake' enough.

Have you looked at the Zooplus website? Much cheaper than buying off the shelf.

I haven't. Mostly because there's a pet shop right near work.

He ingnored his royal Canin this evening. Took a look and just walked past.

Do applaws do loads of types like royal Canin. You know one for indoor, another for outdoor with long hair and another for cats with white paws etc

Not that I get overwhelmed or anything.

I get Arcana 70% meat, 30% veggies, no grains. if my cat went outdoors I'd get Orijen, 80% meat 20% veggies. They don't use grains, replicate the food cats would get in the wild and use human grade food.
I used to get Royal Canin but steered clear once I saw what was in it.

Applaws is super simple in terms of choices - I think their varieties are chicken, chicken and salmon, and chicken and duck, all of which look exactly the same and nobody seems to notice a difference here.

arf at 'cats with white paws' - I know what you mean!
