If you have more than one cat

Do they love each other? Smile

I have 2 from the same litter (brother and sister) and one elderly male cat.

The 2 younger ones love the older cat but especially the boy. When old cat goes out, little boy cat cries. When he comes back in, little boy cat runs to him, headbutts him, snuggled up to him purring ...

Then elderly cat gets fed up and swipes him!

Does anyone else have this?

How many cats do you have, TNC? Middle aged neutered cats is precisely what we wanted but none were available and rescue insisted that if we had children in house then we had to have kittens, too.

My litter mates have friendly moments with each other and both hate the old cat (who reciprocates).

We had a mother and son. They tolerated each-other and would curl up together. We also had a dog, and son was very attached to the dog.

Then we got an unrelated female cat. She hated both the others (and the dog). Then we got an unrelated male. That was a disaster. He wanted to be in charge and it caused much upset and spraying in the house. When DD moved out she took him with her and all settled down.

We lost mother 4 years ago, and son last year. Replaced them with another mother and son. Older female decided to spit and growl at them when they tried to make friends, and after a few months of that now mother attacks older cat at every opportunity Sad. Son is laid back and would be happy to be friends but old cat not having it.

Mother and son snuggle and groom most of the time, but have a mad hour every day when they fight with claws and teeth.

I actually think with dogs females are best and with cats males are.

ragged I tend to assume that everyone on this board knows me and my 'unusual' living arrangements:) I've currently got 22 cats (I think - I keep losing count), not counting the currently three neuter/returns I've got recovering in hospital baskets until they can be released back to where they came from at the end of the week.

i have 2 unrelated boys that i got from a rescue centre at the same time. Different ages. They adore each other. Totally bonded

AnulTheMagnificent · 28/04/2015 21:43

I have one that would adore and follow the other but she hates him.

Marmaladedandelions · 28/04/2015 21:53

TCN - wow! Grin Don't they annoy you? Mine drive me mad although I love them.

This house is filled with animals. A dog, 3 cats, 4 chickens, 4 rabbits, 2 sheep and 3 ponies. Oh and 3 goldfish!

Love 'em!

We have a Russian blue family mum and 2 children ( boy and girl ) they are all very close to each other. Then we have the spoilt Siamese . He is friendly with the Russians but much more of a mummies boy. They don't fight and sometimes Russian boy and Siamese will cuddle next to each other. The dogs however are loved by the Russians and totally despised by obviously superior Siamese !!!!

I've got a lovely family. Mum is bubbles completely black long haired. She Loves me but is not interested in anyone else, including her babies. they are:- a boy looking identical to his mum and 2 tabby girls. Now the girls really love each other. Complete different personalities. They Spend lots of time grooming each other and play fighting. I love them all dearly.

sparkysparkysparky · 30/04/2015 17:06

Two sisters (now deceased ). Think "whatever happened to baby Jane? " I loved them.
I suspect boy/girl is a more amiable combo.

spancake · 01/05/2015 12:31

4 indoor cats - 2 sisters Lola and Blossom (8 yo ragdoll X) and a brother and sister Heidi and Joe (6yo maine coon X) Lola and Blossom were inseperable until Heidi and Joe came along, and then Lola adopted Joe and Blossom adopted Heidi. Now Lola is the boss - big massive beautiful dominant female. Second in command is Heidi who has dwarfism and is only 3lbs. Followed by Joe who is a big old ginger boy. Very mischievous and cheeky, winds up all the girls. And then there's miserable old Blossom - like a grumpy old auntie who dislikes everyone ESPECIALLY Joe. Wont tolerate any funny business and mostly ignores everyone.

So are your's Patience. One of them has what I call Kitler hair

Yes, they will not only be unhappy about the weather, but blame you for it.

I had one cat for years and then took in a relative's cat when she died. My original cat still hates him, swipes him, tries to bite him and waits in ambush for him. It's a shame as he is a gentle, albeit pretty big, creature who I think would like to play although sometimes he does hand it out himself. He is on her territory though so what to do?

Iwouldratherbemuckingout · 03/05/2015 09:22

I have 3 - all from the same rescue - boys were rescued from a flat together, not the same litter but very bonded, but were housed seperately at the rescue from my Lillie. I fell for all 3 of them, we tried them together and havent looked back - they are such a tight threesome. I suspect its because from an early age they lived in more of a colony type arrangement - Lillie was born at the rescue and the boys were only little.

I am hoping this means I will be able to add to the group - but who knows!

abigamarone · 03/05/2015 14:42

2 brothers, just over a year old. Sometimes find them curled up together, which is why one of the cat tree sleep hammocks is now broken. They do fight, but I like to think it's playfighting. There is also the occasional attempt at humping one another, which is far more disturbing.

Best is when they go out together and run back in together, I like to think they prowl around as a pair.

ParsleyCake · 07/05/2015 17:51

My cats don't especially like each other. We have an elderly male, and then a male and a female, both about 2 years old. The elderly male tolerates the younger male, and the younger male often initiates cuddling, which he allows. The old guy hardly ever moves away from him, but he never initiates closeness either. When the younger was a kitten, he was far too boisterous for the older one and kind of beat him up all the time, though he was just playing. Both the males are forced to steer clear of our female, she hisses and spits at us and at them - been like this since we got her sadly. She must have had an abusive past home. It's actually a problem for us that she is so hostile, as we are having a baby soon.

Stinkersmum · 07/05/2015 17:53

Up until recently I had 11, 2 of which were brother and sister and 2 were mother and daughter. The brother and sister were ok together. Not fussed but not nasty. The mother and daughter however were so close, totally adorable to watch.
