Cat needs to lose weight

We have been given a cat by my brother (SIL has worsening asthma so medical recommendation to rehome) and she is beautiful. We have her settling in one room while she acclimatises.

Her preference would be to be an indoor cat. She only goes outside to relieve herself and then only if a litter tray isn't available. That's fine with us. However, she is fat. I don't mean chubby. I mean that the princess has a skirt that she drags along with her!

She was living with an underweight cat, both free flow dry food. What should I do to trim her down now that she's with us?

It's dangerous for a fat cat to lose weight quickly. I would take her to your vet for weighing and advice on weight loss food and diets, they will probably offer you regular weigh ins to make sure she's losing weight at a sensible rate. Obviously it depends which food she is getting and how much but it's probably a good idea to find out how much she should be eating a day and then not have the free flow dry food.

If going to be indoor cat should be reasonable easy to control how much food she gets but agree with pp that you need a vet to look her over and advice on food etc. Our vets offer a weight loss service and regular free weigh ins.
