More in hope than expectation, can you recommend a good cat locater?

Just that, really. We're hoping to get a kitten in the summer after hols abroad. Our dear old girl who died in March was an indoor girl (dd had a little cry about her this morning). Where we live now is more suitable for cat roaming. As well as training newbie to come home to the sound of cat crack, sorry, Dreamies, I wonder if a locater is worth it. Any tips on best brands and how to get the best from it?

I think it can help, particularly when cats first start to go out. Unfortunately they haven't yet invented anything that can be tracked by satelite but which is small enough to fit on a cat's collar. So the Loc8tor for cats is your best bet, but the range isn't great, and worse still through walls etc.

Or you could cat proof your garden so she can't get out of the garden. That's an expensive option though.

Thanks. I'm wondering whether it might build dd's hopes up too high. Crack it is then!

The good thing about the Pet Loc8tor is that you can use it in conjunction with cat crack to train them to come home. So activate collar, feed Dreamies and voila - pavlovian training.

Of course the range is not fantastic if your cats a roamer but it's worth considering if they like sticking mostly around the house or you live somewhere with fields rather than on a housing estate.

How much are these devices and where can you get them from??

I'll mull it over. I've seen them on amazon north of 50 quid.
Pavlovian reinforcement will be the key.
We don't live on a housing estate but have plenty of houses around. There are open bits that might attract a roaming kitty.

I think I paid about £60 for my Locat8or.

Was bloody glad of it when MCat got freaked out in the gales a couple of months back.

And yes, I've done the Pavlov training with mine. When the collar bleeps, they come running for Dreamies. They learn fast.

I'm gonna get one for babyrat cat.

Forgot to add, put it on a snap release collar. The elastic ones can cause horrific injuries.
