Coughing cat has buggered off out and is swanning round the neighbourhood.

She was coughing yesterday morning, just occasionally - a big cough every half hour or so. When I got in yesterday afternoon she was still coughing and also sounded sort of 'wet' when she purred. I rang the vet and got an appointment for this afternoon.

Late last night she was on my lap, gave a big hack and spat out a tiny gob of chewed up manky grass onto my t-shirt.

I went to bed worried, and got up to check on her a couple of times in the night, even though I haven't heard her cough since last night. She's over the road on the neighbours wall now, sunning herself and looking very contented.

Blardy animals. Grin

Debating whether to take her to the vet - I think I might anyway, just to check her out.

I think I would probably keep the appointment (although I tend to have them down if they so much as look at me cross-eyed so I'm no real guide.) It's that 'sounded sort of 'wet' when she purred' that would give me the impetus, I reckon - just in case she's got the start of a little URTI.

Is she up to date with vaccinations etc?

cozietoesie · 11/04/2015 08:29

PS - how old is she?

BlackNoSugar · 11/04/2015 08:31

She's 6 and yes up to date with everything.

I'm sure she's fine, but it was the 'wet' noise I didn't like. I haven't seen her today close up so no idea if it still sounds like that. She should be in for breakfast soon, she will be most annoyed when I lock the cat flap and won't let her back out.

A cat I had many years ago had a cough and the vet extracted a v long blade of grass from the back of her throat so its likely that was it. But I would keep the appointment to double check.

cozietoesie · 11/04/2015 08:37

Good luck then. Probably nothing much at all but you'll feel better for having checked her out.

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2015 08:39

But your bank balance will be a lot worse. Sad

cozietoesie · 11/04/2015 08:42

There is that........ Sad

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2015 08:44

I have lost count of the amount of times I have been to the vets for reassurance at £25 a time. Sad

BlackNoSugar · 11/04/2015 08:53

I have the Complete Care plan with Pets at Home vets, it includes a free yearly vet visit which I'm pretty sure I haven't used yet so fingers crossed for a freebie today Grin

I have that too Black the £10 a month one? I will bear that in mind next time Sparkling Cat has a minor ailment.
I got 10% off her dental with it.

BlackNoSugar · 11/04/2015 08:59

Yes that's the one, includes worming, flea treatment and vaccinations. It's one health check when they get their shots, plus one you can use any time. You do have to remind the vet about it though, I took my other cat in last year and the receptionist looked a bit blank when I offered the card to her, when I said it was for the free visit you could see the lightbulb moment. I get the feeling it's not used very often.

It's raining now. And she hasn't had breakfast. She's still outside.

She knows the vet is on the cards, doesn't she.

Oh Yes. Grin

BlackNoSugar · 11/04/2015 09:25

She's home, she's wet, and she's eating her breakfast.

She still sounds bubbly when she purrs Sad

Have you been to the vet yet? Hope she got on ok if you have.

cozietoesie · 11/04/2015 21:04

How is she?

BlackNoSugar · 12/04/2015 12:10

Sorry I didn't update yesterday, got back late from the vet and had to go straight out again.

She's fine, her chest is clear but her throat/sinuses are irritated and sore, the vet thinks the grass was the problem. She's had a shot of an anti-inflammatory and spent the night on our bed, her purr sounds much more normal today. She's scarfed her breakfast in record time so her throat can't be too sore!

The visit was covered by our Care Plan thing, so they only charged for the injection, a nice cheap visit for once.

That's great news. Smile
