Unwanted hangers-on

Over the weekend Monty came in and was demanding strokes this very instant, as is his way, and I felt a clump of something in the midst of his floofy tail. I thought initially it might have just been a bit of twig or leaf, which he tends to collect in his fur as woodland accessories, but when I tried picking at it more closely I felt it was slimy. My thought was then either a little clump of mud, or more grossly some sort of poo related accoutrement, but when I finally managed to get a grip on it to de-tangle it out, I discovered it was a small slug. Which I then dropped on the floor in disgust, prompting it to try wriggling off (it was still alive) and Monty made as though to try eating it, so I had to quickly scoop it back up and chucked it out into the garden.

Having grown up with short-haired cats which don't really provide the same sort of fluffy habitat for creatures to clamber onto, I confess I'd never thought I might one day find a slug lurking in my cat's tail. Has anyone got any other tales of unwanted hangers-on?

I do!

MTeen has short curly fur, but a mahoosive bushy tail, like he was handed out the wrong size. I've found a small slug on there before.

Yes I've picked off a fair few slugs over the years (Maine Coons! and a long haired Torty)

Frankly I prefer picking off slugs to stuck in poos....!

(And I have ordered some clippers so my guys are getting a serious butt trimming when they arrive!)

And I have to say, I love the idea of "woodland accessories".

And poo related accoutrements.

Quite the thing this season.

Mine are always bringing in those mini, skinny sluglets. Revolting.

Oh and those wretched sticky ball seed things that need cutting out. At least the slugs come out relatively easily.

One of my friends' shorthaired cats is bedecked with those little sticky seeds all through the late summer, I dearly hope Monty doesn't decide to start collecting those!

Alas that slugs are apparently a fairly common feature of longhaired cats or those with fluffier tails - I was hoping it was a strange and unusual one-off that will never ever be repeated! Though to be fair it could have been worse if he had groomed it out himself, eaten it and then probably thrown up half-digested slug on my bed...
