How can I find a home for DS's dear cat?

We have the sweetest, softest cat who had a terrible start in life with his brother. In most ways he is completely perfect as a companion animal. We weaned him and brought him up. He is only 4 - but he has a behavioural problem (he eats certain types of clothing material) and it just isn't working for our family. It has been suggested that maybe it is due to anxiety being kept in the house with his brother but I'm not so sure. The local cats protection league don't want him. My DS adores the cat and we are desperate to find him a good loving home that we can check out. What do people suggest? I really don't want to abandon him at an animal shelter - it would break DS's heart. But local adverts haven't got us anywhere.

What do you mean by 'eating'? Do you mean he chews holes in it and swallows? Or is he just sort of sucking? And what sort of material?

He ingests as far as we can see. Mainly jersey material but he's also partial to certain wools.

simple solution is keep all jumpers and clothes in wardrobes and drawers so he cant eat them if this is a serious post get in touch with all the local rescues and put him on waiting lists shelters are not like in america, most either have large pens like cattery pens for the cats or foster in homes

Have you spoken to a vet/behaviour expert?

If your ds loves him and he loves ds it seems a shame to try to re home him Sad

Why are they kept in the house? Could they not be allowed outdoors?

The new family will have the same problem so I don't think it's fair to rehome him. Don't deprive your DS of the cat if he is fond of it. I agree with speaking to a vet or animal behaviour person.
