Worried about my cat and will take her to vets Monday even though she went two weeks ago. One minute I think she is fine/ normal and just changing her habits as she does he a new favoured chair but my gut instinct is that there is something wrong. She has lost weight although vet didn't seem concerned. Oddly she gas stopped coming upstairs and prefers to sit on a seat in the front room. She barely eats dried food, only wet now and has a new obsession with drinking from the bathroom sink! And the look although we keep the lid down so have ruined her fun in that dept. She may b fine but I want vet to do blood tests is she may b in pain or sick or just may b getting old. She is a rescue cat and may b a lot older than we thought, something the vet also thinks. Been lying in bed since 3 am worrying about her.

Sounds similar to my cat. She changed after her annual vaccination but I think it's just because she's getting older. Good idea to get her checked out for peace of mind.

thanks for your response alpine, as we speak she is sitting her giving me love which has lifted my spirits, she doesn't always seem different. she had gone off her (dry) food before her yearly jabs two weeks ago, can't remember when she stopped going upstairs, possibly since the jabs, really weird, she loved it upstairs, she suddenly seems to look/act quite old (bit like me...). hate to think she is ill/in pain :0( i miss her sleeping near me

I hear that you have some uncertainty - but roughly how old would you all guess she is?

jeanswithatwist · 28/02/2015 10:13

this is the thing, we (including the vets over the years) have NO idea but when i saw the vet a couple of weeks ago he admitted that she might be alot older than we had all originally thought. we have had her for three years. i am taking her to the vet in ten minutes :0)

vet used to guess around 5/7 years (i think human years..)

just got back from the vets. it isn't looking very good. she has lost 10% of her body weight in the last few weeks. he thinks it may be liver, kidney related or diabetes (she has this new obsession with water so that would make sense). very upset

Not so good - is the vet doing blood and urine tests?

So she could actualy be as much as in her early teens, say?

jeanswithatwist · 28/02/2015 14:14

vet has done blood tests, i have to ring him in twenty minutes. i asked him if there were any positive possibilities ie someting that is easily treatable/that she will be fine from with which he looked serious and kept making reference to how old she probably is. I have a good idea of the outcome of this. she looks so pathetic just sitting there, so small and hasn't eaten today (barely) despite me having put out in her tray about four different things that she loves inc cheesies & tuna. i am dreading calling him tbh but i always knew that having a cat would go this way at some point, just didn't expect it so soon (only had her 3 1/2 years)

I know that sitting there small - sounds as if she's in pain. (Or feeling unwell.) No point speculating with bloods so nearly through though. Let us know the results when you get them.

I can't even imagine how I'd feel if it was one of my lads. So just offering a bit of a handhold.

Have lots of memorable and lovely cuddles with her tonight. Is there any food she can't resist? I remember I bought my little dog a slice of chocolate fudge cake on the day of her final visit. It made her happy. Flowers
