Pregnant cat. Being sick and ...

Runny poops.

To fully explain:

An older gentleman on our road had 2 cats. Before Xmas he passed away and his family took the older cat to be PTS (it was really old and not in good health)

His younger cat always came to our house and 2 others for feeding and somewhere to sleep. And so we told them we would take her on.

But shes not a very homely cat, not the cuddling sort, likely to get bitten if you try, although she does sit on knees occasionally.

Anyway. She comes and goes and she is very fluffy so we musn't have noticed her rounding out as she doesn't like being stroked.

About a week ago I finally got her in the house to flea her and saw her tummy was round and her nipples protruding.

So I have kept her in a small room with a bed and a tray.

I came down this morning to vomit and runny poo on the floor.

Could this be birth related?

I have no idea how far she is. She seems normal, shes walking about the house now. Not doing anything different.

Am just worrying, never done anything like this before.

Could be worm related. Needs to be vetted.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/02/2015 15:16

I'd suggest a vet too. What will you do with the kittens?.

Tiptops · 21/02/2015 19:06

Why on earth didn't you get her spayed when you took her on? So irresponsible considering the risks to her and the fact we are already overpopulated with unwanted cats in rescue centres.

Have no idea if it is birth related, you need to get her to a vet.

rinabean · 21/02/2015 19:09

Tiptops lay off, she took this cat in and I'm sure she'll get it spayed if it is pregnant

Take her to the vet though because it's not good to have a swollen belly and be vomiting

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/02/2015 19:11

Because she didnt know the cats history?.

gamerchick · 21/02/2015 19:12

You need to take her to the vet.

Pengting · 21/02/2015 22:04

Well I didn't know she hadn't been spayed for one. TBH I wasn't even sure if the sex of the cat as she is very tetchy about being touched so she gets flead and fed and sometimes she sleeps in the house but no real contact.

I did say to DH last week as wet heard someone talking about kitten season coming up about getting her spayed but obviously too late for that.

I'll make an appointment Monday. This is rather crap as I'm skint at the moment.

I mean the guys dead so I couldn't ask him and his family spoke very little English so the brunt of the conversation was them asking if I could have the cat. Anything beyond that wouldn't have translated.

Nice one for taking the cat on.

You can take her in for a spay even if she is pregnant. Have a think about what's best for her and the possible kittens to be. Crap position for you to have been put in though.

Def vet asap though.

I think we can get help through cats protection. Just thinking that it may take a while for the funding to be sorted and with her already being pregnant it is probably best it happens asap? Anyone know how long it takes for funding?

No advice but well done you for taking her in. Let's hope the vet doesn't think there is anything more wrong and she and the kittens have a healthy birth.

Tiptops · 22/02/2015 11:11

A vet check would have easily determined the sex, given her the once over health wise and it's standard practice to shave a bit of fur off rescue/ abandoned cats to find out if they have a spay scar. Thousands of cats come into rescue every year with no history. Ignorance is no excuse, but I hope she gets well soon.

Pengting · 22/02/2015 11:49

I think I'm going to get her spayed and the kittens removed, I don't know anyone who would want a kitten and considering shes already lost her home and isn't settled here I think its for the best.

And I'm not a rescue organisation Tiptops, I'm just a person who agreed to take her on so why would I even think of shaving her!? She barely lets me touch her.

Tiptops you're being an arse. Well done op. I think it depends how far advanced her pregnancy is as to whether a vet will spay.

Gileswithachainsaw · 22/02/2015 12:09

You have done a good thing. It was a difficult set of circumstances and you weren't to know. your also not responsible for someone else's lack of surgery consent Hmm

it depends how far along she is as to whether they will operate I guess. If the birth is imminent. ..

Please let us know how yku get on. I hope there's nothing wrong and its just pregnancy related. hopefully they can still worm her so she doesn't pass on to kittens.

Methe · 22/02/2015 12:19

There's such a lot of twats on Mumsnet nowerdays.

Pengtang well don't for taking the cat in :)

thecatneuterer · 22/02/2015 12:20

OP. I think spay/abort is definitely the way to go. It's better for her and it's better for the cat population in general. As you know there are too many cats and not enough homes.

Well done for taking her on. It it hadn't been for you she'd have been giving birth outside and, those kittens that survived and didn't get eaten by foxes would then go on to form a feral colony.

I don't suppose you're in London? If you are you could come to us and we'd do it for free.

chockbic · 22/02/2015 13:00

I feel sorry for those kittens.

Hope they don't suffer Sad

Pengting · 22/02/2015 14:58

I'm not in London, no, thanks for the offer though. I'll take her to the vets tomorrow and see what they say.

Will keep you updated.
