4am wake up call

Girl cat jumps on me and dh rudely walking all over us purring like a tractor biting hair, making any sort of noise just to get fed.

We have biscuits down all the time. Feed them wet food early am early pm and then a half pouch each late pm before we go to bed in the hopes it would stop her waking us.

We've tried automatic feeders but she won't eat from it.

Why can't she eat the bloody biscuits she enjoys during the day?! I shut her out the other morning and she howled and scratched for ages until dh got so irritated he gave in and fed her.

This is a recent thing, she goes through phases of this. How can I retrain her? I need sleep!!!

I lock my nags in dining room at night.

Too late to advise you to get a Siamese I guess. (They sleep through in bed with you.) How old is she and has she been spayed?

She's after attention, anyway, and not food. What does she have in the way of toys and activties?

Oh

....she howled and scratched for ages until dh got so irritated he gave in.....

You don't give in - invest some time now to stop bad behaviour in the future because she's just learned that yelling works. Harden your hearts.

GingerbreadBaubles · 21/02/2015 11:25

She's 4 been spayed, she has some interactive toys as well as the ones we chuck around for her. If we feed her she scoffs her food then goes to sleep! Leaving us wide awake.

She does this on and off its not consistent but after 4 nights on the trot it's getting on my wick.

Does she have forage toys for her dried? I take it she doesn't go out during the day?

gamerchick · 21/02/2015 11:27

This is why mine doesn't get fed first thing.

It's sort us out then play. After play it's eat, wash and sleep.

She does wake me up early occasionally but that's just by sticking her arse in my face and trilling. Hmm

GingerbreadBaubles · 21/02/2015 11:31

No I don't I will get her some forage toys, yes both cats are free range. She prefers to be in more than out though.

I lock ours in a room overnight with everything he needs.

babygiraffe86 · 21/02/2015 15:26

Our 2 are closed in the kitchen/dining room overnight for exactly this reason!! They're used to it now!

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/02/2015 16:39

You have to be firm. I'm ignoring ours right now, the miaows are getting more and more plaintive.

We went through this with our cats. We used to shut them in one room but they scratched and cried to be let out. If we let them roam the house they either came and wrestled on our bed or scratched and cried at our door if we shut them out. Definitely just wanting our attention as they always have biscuits down. Eventually we got a Scat-type deterrent outside our bedroom door, I felt mean when they got blasted but it was the only way we could get a good night's sleep. Now they rarely disturb us before the alarm on weekdays and we at least get to sleep until 6:30-7:00 on a weekend before they sit as close as they dare and inform us it's breakfast time.

Qwebec · 22/02/2015 00:24

It is hard, but I agree with other giving in reinforces the behavior.
Our cat used to wake us up around 3 am when she would meow her head off. It continues as long as DP reacted. When we ignored her, it took a few nights and she stopped permanently.

Really tire cat out before bed so all it wants to do is sleep all night. DH uses flying frenzy wand with our Ragdoll at about 11pm. Our kitten then sleeps in our bed until about 6.30 am and usually comes under the covers for cuddles. I think the cat may waking for attention and not food. Give him lots of play/fuss in evening and really tire him out.
