How can I stop my cat being so needy?

So my cat/kitten is 7 months. She is super lovely and very much my pfb which I suspect is the problem.

We've always played with her loads in the morning and evening as she was left mostly for a few hours from a couple of months in the day but she's never had much time alone as we are around a lot. She's not particularly cuddly or strokey most of the time but follows me constantly and wants me to play with her particularly to throw this bloody ball..which was fine except now I'm at home all day every day due to illness and have been for 2 months and she won't leave me alone. If I don't play with her 24/7 she comes and bites me on the wrists really hard, if I shut her out of the room she scratches and cries at the door. She's started going outside but only when it's sunny Hmm and even then she wants me to stand and watch her. I've thought about getting her a friend but obviously there are no guarantees she would like them particularly given her temperament and she also has calcici virus so unless I could fine another fluey friend it wouldn't be very fair.
Any ideas wise ones? I just want her to be happy kitty and to be able to have five minutes peace Smile

She should start calming down a little with more age on her. Has she been spayed yet?

awaywego1 · 19/02/2015 15:02

She was spayed a month ago..maybe the hormones are still working the way out of her system hopeful

7 months is still only a kitten. Smile

But I'd stop that biting and fussing outside the door before it has a chance to take hold. Harden your heart! She won't be unhappy about chastisement as long as it's consistent so that she has a chance to learn what behaviour is not welcome and thus avoid the sin.

MCat was very needy, yet bitey until we got MKitten for him to bite. I realise with the calici that's not such an easy option for you. But yeah, he used to follow us about and spring to the door as soon as we got home. Which made me sad because i thought he must be lonely. He's a much happier and calmer cat now, since MKitten joined us. He grooms him in a motherly way. If you do decide to get another cat, I'd recommend getting a male kitten. Females are at the top of the cat hierarchy, so 2 together will be more likely to fight, in my experience anyway.

Have you got any interactive toys for you to play with her? Flying Frenzy is brilliant, you can flick it about even when feeling weak and poorly.

We had a large kitty cage if it all got too much.

They seem to settle in them and go to sleep.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for all the advice. I might try the flying frenzy she has the ball in a run thing which she likes and does play with it sometimes at night when I'm asleep bless her!
Long-term another cat might be the answer she's only just recovering from the catflu so I'll speak to the vet and see what they say..also I can't really commit to another cat at the moment due to being unwell but it's defo something for the future and good advice on getting a boy. I'll try being a bit stricter on putting her outside the room etc if she bites etc because she is a terrible for it and i need to try and sort it out now because it actually really hurts now she's bigger.

Has she any Siamese or Oriental in her? Her behaviour sounds like it. Wink

awaywego1 · 19/02/2015 22:06

I don't think so she's just the most adorable and small tabby. The vet seems to think she's going to be a tiny cat so maybe she's developing a huge personality to make up for her size :)

Haven't got one of these myself, but others on the board have recommended them. Cat's Meow.

She can amuse herself on her own with this. Giving you a bit of peace while you're poorly.

Thanks I think she'd like that might act as a good replacement for my hand :)
