What's wrong with my cat?

My poor little guy Sad

Adopted cat from rescue last year. He is 8years old, siamese. Had a hard life, bullied by other pets in house pre adoption. He is lovely. So affectionate, loving and gentle.

I lost my dad recently so went to mum's for Christmas as did not want her on her own. It was short notice but we found a well recommended local cattery and the woman has four siamese of her own so knows the breed. It was for ten days.

When he came back he was very stressed. Bad tummy, lost voice, lost some weight. He seems more settled now but he is still having tummy issues (have read siamese have delicate constitutions when upset). He has had diarrhoea and vomiting, sometimes up to 3 times a day. We feed him Waitrose own wet food (high meat %) and Wellbeloved dry food as is his normal diet. The vet has tested for diabetes, kidneys, liver - came back clear. He has been wormed and had a course of antibiotics. We tried vet food for delicate stomach. He often eats grass which induces vomiting and there is usually grass in his poo.

ATM on vet advice we are feeding him chicken and white fish only which seems to calm his tum down but it is £££££ and really isn't the root of the problem.

He is otherwise happy, hungry and active. No other signs of stress or illness. So WTF, cat?

Here he is, a bit stoned because they had to sedate him for blood tests. He has a shaved chest, the silly.

Those ears!!

A noble boy. (Remind me - he's a blue point? It's a little difficult to tell with the colour values in that picture.)

I'd be tempted to make inside so nice that he doesn't want to go outside - that brush tail tells its own story. Maybe an extra litter tray and something heated for him to cuddle on as a start?

When Seniorboy last had bloods taken he looked positively sculpted - much like your lad.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Oooo isn't he handsome? I've always had a bit of a thing for cats with huge ears!

Our big tabby boy had few digestive issues, he'd been in a rescue for a while before he came to us. He had tests for everything going, tried various diets - eventually after ruling just about everything out the only possibility was IBS - part of his bowel was not absorbing a certain vitamin correctly and this showed in his blood tests.

He also wasn't getting on well with our other cats and they were all stressing each other out - so we took the decision to find a new home for him where he could be the only cat. I'm sttill in touch with his new family - and he has no bowel issues at all now despite being on bog standard cat food! Just goes to show how big a part stress can play.

....Just goes to show how big a part stress can play.....

I agree - potentially huge with some animals.

Can you get anti spasmodic medication for cats?

stareatthetvscreen · 09/02/2015 16:05

Ah he's gorgeous!

Do you have those cat cradles you can hang on your radiator? I used to have two and the cats loved them (dh threw them away Sad).

He is absolutely beautiful!

I know absolutely nothing about Siamese but with regards to food, my pampered moggy absolutely loves Applaws tuna + prawns (it has cooked rice in it but is otherwise just tuna, fish broth & prawns). It is not suitable as the only source of food though. It looks like a luxury tin of tuna for humans...(with a price to match, but he's worth it!)
