Canagan

Does anyone else feed Canagan wet cat food? H only eats dry food and I'm determined to get him to eat a little bit of wet food, even if it's just one can a day! I tried him on Applaws (and various other makes) and he looked at me as though I was trying to poison him but I've noticed that Canagan has tuna in it's wet food range.

Would it matter if he had one of the tuna flavour tins each day? I've heard that too much tuna isn't good for them but is that only human tuna?

H occasionally 'shares' a tin of tuna in spring water with DH so I'm hoping some tuna flavoured wet food might hit the spot! If he'll eat them I was planning on feeding him one tin a day replacing some of his James Wellbeloved dry food.

Thanks in advance.

Funny, I've been thinking about the canagan food. I like the noble looking cat on the packaging. Grin

I think the thing to worry about with tuna is the brine, so if it's in a cat food it should be fine. MCat gets the tuna Applaws and Cosma. He seems to favour the Cosma (for now).

I need to find somewhere local to get a few tins - no way am I ordering a box of 12 from the Canagan website as I have a sneaking suspicion that someone will turn up his nose! Then again it is £1 a tin so maybe he will like it!

Update - I couldn't find Canagan wet food so picked up some Applaws instead. I gave H a tin of tuna fillet for breakfast this morning and we have an empty bowl and a very content looking cat! I know it's not a complete food so I'll carry on feeding his dry food as well (obviously reducing the amount) and hopefully he'll be happy with that and not expecting tuna every meal!

At the moment he has James Wellbeloved dry food but I mighty try him on the Applaws dry as it seems to have a higher meat content.

Do you have any neighbours or friends/relatives that you could share a purchase with? I know well the experience of 'discovering' something the cat will eat - only to have the second tin/pouch roundly rejected.

Mine get the dry Applaws because of the high meat content and no cereals.

They also like the Royal Canin Fit32 I think it is, but I think that may have cereals in it.

Ooh, and if you're feeding him wet to keep his pee-pipes crystal free, add a little water to the wet food.

Sadly no-one else to split the cost with as mother is refusing to feed George expensive food and he seems quite happy on Felix! Battersea will be getting another food parcel if he decides he doesn't like it!

I've got quite a lot of James Wellbeloved so the plan (at the moment!) is a tin of Applaws for breakfast, possibly every other day to start with. I'll carry on with a small amount of James Wellbeloved for lunch (if he wants it, he's been in a tuna induced stupor since breakfast!) and a normal sized bowl for dinner. Once he's getting near the end of the JW I'll get a small bag of Applaws and see how it goes.

Thanks for the tip about the water Rubbish. I'm not really sure why I've got such a bee in my bonnet about wet food - he drinks regularly and the vet says he's in good health but I remember being told on another cat forum that I was being cruel and killing him by only feeding him dry and I've worried about it ever since. I also feel a bit sad that he doesn't have any treats in life - he won't eat Dreamies, chicken, ham, cheese, fish or anything else that other cats have.

Well this has been an almighty fail - H's tuna induced stupor lasted nine, yes nine hours! That is nine hours of sleeping on our bed and hardly moving! I only reason he's up now is because I woke him up and put him outside for a breath of fresh air! I know the normal 'human' tuna he has as a treat makes him sleepy but not as bad as this.

I think he'll be staying on his dry food with lots of water and tuna as a treat!

Update - he's now asleep in his own bed!
