how to use flea spray

Hello. We have 2 cats and they both have fleas. I feel really stupid as we hadn't treated them for ages. I'm terrified we're not going to get rid of them.

I bought some Indorex at the vet's today (I didn't realise you could get it for half the price online) and I was wondering if anyone had tips for using it. Do you have to do the whole house in one go? We've got quite a lot of clutter and it would be easier to do a couple of rooms at a time. I could do DS's room straight away but I don't know if there is a point in doing it in isolation and then stopping the cats going in there.

Also, our bedroom has floorboards - should we spray them or just the bed? Thanks.

I've just realised I have other questions too...

What is the right order to do everything (spot on, washing, spraying). DH put some spot on stuff on the cats on Saturday but I've looked and it was pet shop rather than prescription strength. I've phoned the vets and they've recommended waiting a week before using something stronger. I don't know if I should spray before then. Also, the vet gave me some Capstar tablets today (well, the receptionist did as I was looking a bit panicked that I was still seeing fleas after using what I thought was prescription spot on). I've been reading online that this isn't much use though as it just kills adult fleas.

Lastly, I've been reading some other threads and it seems that getting pest control in costs about £50-65. Would you recommend this and how tidy does your house need to be before they come? Thanks if you've read all this - I am freaking out a bit as I found one crawling in my 8mo DD's hair this morning!

You need to do everything all at once. If not the fleas will simple hide away until the cat walks past & it'll start again.

We had a similar issue in the summer due to taking in a stray.

It'll need a good Hoover, then treat, everything! We got to to pay a attention to skirting boards, cracks, beds, sofas ect.

One treatment did the trick!!

All so remember a flea can live 1 week without a feed so you may see some after a week.

First of all treat the house, do it all in one go & order another can incase you run out.

Vacuum everywhere & wash the bedding at 60c.

Stick a flea collar in the vacuum cleaner bag.

Order advocate or Broadline off the vet. Don't bother with frontline.

It's only serious infestations that need pest control. We've all been there with fleas.

Thanks for the replies. I'm really hoping this all works.
