Kittens getting neutered tomorrow :/

My kittens (brother and sister) are getting neutered tomorrow. I know in theory they'll be fine, but feeling a bit nervous for them :/ Please tell me they WILL be fine!

Well they have to say that dont they and it's true in a very small number of cases - just like humans. The risks to a cat from being unneutered are probably far, far greater than the risks from a GA. Pregnancy alone carries all sorts of potential problems. You've done absolutely the right thing.

Let us know how she's got on. Smile

awaywego1 · 23/01/2015 13:05

Apparently OP went well and I can pick her up at 2.30..can't wait Grin

cozietoesie · 23/01/2015 13:13

There you go. Smile

NameChange30 · 23/01/2015 17:53

Glad it went well! How is she, and does she have a big bald patch?!

OP posts:
awaywego1 · 23/01/2015 18:46

She's ok another but not brilliant, just looking really fed up and making a weird low purr from time to time..She's just managed to go to sleep so hopefully that'll help! How are your little ones doing?

awaywego1 · 23/01/2015 18:47

She's got a huge bald patch as well!

NameChange30 · 23/01/2015 19:07

Ours didn't seem to be too affected, DH said they were a bit crazy yesterday afternoon, which is not unusual! They did sit on our laps for cuddles for longer than usual last night Smile
Hope your girl is back to her old self soon, I'm sure she just needs to sleep it off and she'll be fine.
I'm told the fur grows back quickly - hope that's true! It's such a big bald patch for such a small cut!

Extra cuddles is always a good thing!
I just rang the vets actually as the she is making a really odd rasping noise but apparently its fairly common as a result of tube being removed.

Mynewnamenotyours · 24/01/2015 09:18

Good to see this thread, my babies are both being neutered next Wednesday and I'm rather nervous.

While they are 5 months old girlcat is tiny and had very long hair so will look rather odd.

Did your two come back with cone collars? Originally the vet said they probably wouldn't but ours groom each other a lot so then she said they'd both need collars.

NameChange30 · 24/01/2015 09:27

The vet gave us cones just in case they start licking their wounds too much. But they haven't, they don't seem bothered at all, so we haven't put the cones on.

cozietoesie · 24/01/2015 09:53

How are they now?

awaywego1 · 24/01/2015 10:05

Mine doesn't have a cone but hasn't done much other than the odd lick.

She's not herself at all, very quiet, not eating or drinking and still making this odd noise bless her..gonna just keep a close eye on her today and see how she goes.

NameChange30 · 24/01/2015 12:47

away Poor kitty Sad Maybe the tube bruised her throat? Is there anything the vet can give her, pain relief or something?

OP posts:
awaywego1 · 24/01/2015 14:05

I think that's it emma Rang vets they said to go and pick up some pain relief but when we got there said she can't have it unless she's eaten (we'd told them she hadn't eaten or drank on the phone) so got to take her in at 3 if she hasn't eaten by then for an injection. Poor love looks so miserable and keeps shaking and can't even be tempted by scrambled eggs.

NameChange30 · 24/01/2015 14:13

Aw poor baby. The injection should do her good. See what the vets recommend giving her to eat and drink. Maybe kitten milk, as it would be easier to swallow than food, and would be more nutritional than water?

OP posts:
awaywego1 · 24/01/2015 14:22

Yes hopefully they'll give some advice. She must be very sore as she has refused kitten milk which she loves and the only thing she has injested since before the op is a tiny bit of cream from the end of dps finger which made her let out a horrible noise and start shaking I assume with pain.

NameChange30 · 24/01/2015 14:32

Oh dear she does sound in a very bad way. She definitely needs pain relief. Surely the tube shouldn't have done so much damage?

OP posts:
gamerchick · 24/01/2015 14:35

Was she given the pain killing injection that lasts a few days? She shouldn't be like that poor thing.

awaywego1 · 24/01/2015 16:04

Back from vets who said that kitty is poorly and has given her painkilling injection and antibiotic injection as she may have an infection developing as a result of the tube as she has quite raspy breathing and a temperature. Have to just keep her warm and quiet tonight and try and get her to eat something..if she hasn't eaten by tommorow I'll have to take her back for another injection and they'll probably admit her for feeding. She said it's rare but some cats have a bad reaction to the tube being removed. She seems more comfortable already so fingers crossed. They had given her a long acting injection yesterday but I guess it must have started to wear of. Thanks guys :) xx

AWholeLottaNosy · 24/01/2015 16:10

Ooh hope kitty is feeling better soon! Flowers

awaywego1 · 24/01/2015 16:10

ps. I really don't want to put anyone of having their cat neutered as the risks of childbirth and need for no more kittens in the world are much higher than the op and I'm sure my baby cat will be fine in a few days and running the show again Grin

NameChange30 · 24/01/2015 16:14

Aw glad you took her to the vets. As you say I'm sure she'll be feeling better soon Flowers

OP posts:
RubbishMantra · 24/01/2015 16:58

You're absolutely right away about the neutering. Doesn't stop you fretting though. Smile

Hope she's feeling better soon. Flowers

awaywego1 · 24/01/2015 20:35

Thanks for all the Thanks
She still hasn't eaten or drunk a thing bless her x

NameChange30 · 25/01/2015 10:09
