How do I find this kitten a home?

My neighbour's cat (who spends much of her time with us) has produced two litters of kittens this year. We took the last (unwanted) one from the first litter and I have been busy trying to find homes for the kittens from the second, more recent litter. There is now one single kitten remaining, but she's five months old, nearly a cat and I am running out of ideas and people to ask. She is a real sweetie, very purry and playful, but since we already have one cat and sometimes 2 cats in our small flat I don't think we can take her. I feel extremely reluctant to take her to the Cat Protection League or Battersea where (if they even have room for her) she'll have to live in some kind of cage until she is re-homed Sad I've asked everyone I know and plenty of people I barely know, put notices in school newsletters but either people want a pair of cats or it's not the right time... I'm worried that she will soon be a full sized cat and it will be even harder to find her a good home. If anyone has any helpful suggestions I'd be very grateful.

im sure she will find a home much quicker at a rescue . the prospective owner will be vetted.

can you speak to your neighbour about getting her cat speyed. the cats protection league may be able to help if there are financial difficulties.

Whereabouts are you? There are lots of small rescue centres that may help you find someone whilst keeping her at your flat.

AuntPorridger · 21/01/2015 21:45

Thanks lemisscared, I just wonder how long she would be there before being rehomed. It kind of breaks my heart to be honest. I did take my neighbour's cat to be neutered and hoped that would be the end of the endless kitten saga but of course now this remaining kitten could potentially get pregnant, since she is nearly 5 months so I'll have to take her before long

take her to the rescue. they will neuter her and as she is still at the cute stage she'll find a home quickly.

steppeinginto2015 · 21/01/2015 21:49

You could talk to the rescue and say you can foster her till they find a place?

steppeinginto2015 · 21/01/2015 21:50

or post a photo on here and see if anyone pms you...

hoobypickypicky · 21/01/2015 21:54

Call Cats Protection in the first instance. They probably won't have room for her but they will more than likely be willing and able to offer you a free neutering voucher under the circumstances.

You could then ask for her to be put on their waiting list for when they do have room and ring round the smaller, independent rescues near and far. It's much better to have her go to a home which has been vetted by a rescue and to be given all her vaccinations up to date than to try to rehome her yourself and many rescues will take in from a considerable distance away.

steppeinginto2015, potentially the OP could be offering the cat to an abuser by advertising her on the net to strangers. Besides, I believe that it's not allowed on this forum. someone tried advertising a cat on here on the behalf of a rescue fairly recently and the powers that be took the appeal down.

steppeinginto2015 · 21/01/2015 21:59

apologies hooby, you are right

BTW I'm not asking for someone here to adopt her -- just needed reassurance that the rescue centres are the right route.

You could ask local vets in your area, some facilitate helping finding good homes with responsible cat lovers. I was approached this way with my latest kitty addition. Good luck, I managed to sneak a peak before picture deleted, she is gorgeous and also will be socialised which can make a difference. Good for you for being such a caring cat friend!

isseywithcats · 23/01/2015 17:46

getting her on all the local to you rescues waiting lists is definitely the best thing you can do for her, she is young, friendly and if you get a voucher for her being neutered will do the rescues a favour financially, not all rescues have cages by the way, some rescues foster in homes and most centers have full sized pens, she wont be ata rescue for long by the sounds of it, but definitely look into getting her neutered as girl cats can get pregnant from as young as 4 months old

Contact Cats Protection - they actually don't have that many shelters, my local branch doesn't, all their cats were fostered in people's homes (I know this because I was a fosterer).

You may be able to foster her yourself, so you would have her on a temporary basis but CP would be looking for a home for her.

Alternatively you could sneek round to Sparklingbrook's house, put the kitten on her doorstep, knock on the door and run

From personal experience I wouldn't bother with cats protection (may just be the one in my area thou) on 2 separate occasions they were useless (one time was when I woke to find a poor stray dying in my garden) rspca emergency came up trumps both times. I'd ring them explain whats happened and see if they can offer a solution. Sounds to me like your starting to love that little cat thouGrin
