My cat goes to be spayed this week. How to make her comfortable after?

What do you think she would like? how can I make it easier for her and how long generally until she's feeling ok?

Thanks.

I am anxious. I know it's routine and not a big deal but I know she's going to be in pain and anything I can do to make her feel a bit better would be great.

Yes she does. 9am monday. Is pearl licking at her wound a lot? They didnt give me a collar for toffee and im worried she'll start gnawing.

No she has the collar on. She got poo stuck on it this morning Confused

I thought collars were standard issue for post op females.

Me too. I was told to contact them if shes licking at it. I was concerned but they said its fine.
Poor thing is very subdued tonight

Ours was done this week, she came home and went loopy, I'm sure they had given her fruit shoot via IV. She came home with a cine which she had to wear for ten days and we were charged nearly £6 for. We haven't had to give her any pain killers as they had given her a long lasting dose and a dose of antibiotics. She went for her check up yesterday and they are pleased with her.

Hope everyone's kitties are recovering well Smile

Pearl has been for a checkup and is fine, but the nurse said we can't take the collar off until her final check up next Friday.

She's desperately trying to wash her coat, so I might give her a couple of hours free of it this afternoon.

Have fun getting it back on! Wink

I'm a bit concerned now. If it's standard to get a collar, why didn't my vets do it?

Glad yours are both doing well.

Many cats pretty well ignore their wounds apart from the odd cleansing lick.

I should imagine that there are more cones almost immediately put in rubbish bins than there are around cats necks - most cats detest them.

Is she doing OK without one?

HowCanIMissYouIfYouWontGoAway · 17/01/2015 14:45

Yes, she's fine. She's had a bit of a sniff and a tiny wash but she is leaving it alone for the most part.

We've made some steps so she can get up and down from the sofa without straining. Oddly, she can jump up just fine but seems to really struggle to get down. she's very happy to have steps. Grin

Sorry if I'm being a cat bore Grin

Sounds OK. If her attention changes from being the odd quick lick to more of a 'fevered' licking then I'd take action but otherwise - well you said she was a bit subdued so a cone might just be all too much for her. Keep an eye on her until she's recovered is the main thing.

Good luck to her.

I've been using the same vets for years now, so I'm not sure if it's standard.

They are awful. I took Pearl's off and she thought it was her Birthday! Grin she had a jolly good wash, then started licking the wound, so back on it went.

The wound does heal very quickly.

I had two of my fosters done yesterday. One girl and one boy. They were running around and eating within minutes of coming round from the anaesthetic.

We never put collars on. We do internal stitches though, so there is nothing for them to bite.

hiddenhome · 17/01/2015 16:55

Pearl has glue on hers. She did find a little bit to nibble at, which is when the collar went back on.
