What is this - cat humping?

Seems to be a new thing - last couple of days - but my male car suddenly seems to be humping just before he settles down.. so he sort of does a very quick jiggy thing while he is paddling with his paws.. He is also licking his bits a lot more than normal (or maybe not and I am just noticing it more because of the humping)

Could this be worms? I was assured he'd been wormed just before he joined our family about 2 months ago but this is the only thing I can think it to be? And dogs do that weird bum dragging thing so wondered if this was the feline equivalent Sad

He is neutered btw so hope he hasn't just morphed into a frisky bugger!

Back at the vets this morning - my poor cat hates me! - and have more anti inflammatory stuff for his food and she's sent his urine off to an external lab..

she is now leaning towards it possibly being behavioural in that he is humping for pleasure and the intense washing is him relieving his erection Shock I can see his penis when he is cleaning it so he's out and proud and given he is normal with his littering, no other signs...

So we'll see what happens next - and yes, thank goodness for insurance as otherwise I could've lost my gorgeous boy! They confirmed cover beginning of the week and I've had all my costs back - except for the excess of course. Can't fault them!

I remember you said about him being bullied? Humping can be to show dominance. Then he got into licking his bits because of the urine infection and discovered it's 'nice' Confused. So it could well be a behaviour that he's now learnt. Both my boys do it a lot.

I hope the lab tests will give you some answers.

I did read about humping being about dominance but only seems to be me he's keen to dominate Blush but there are still issues with neighbourhood cats so can well believe it! Seems like a different cat every time I manage to see one - they only tend to come over in the dark... could only see reflecting eyes from then entirely black one, was really eerie Grin

If it's behavioural, whilst it's not the best, I can live with it because it's not going to cause him health issues.. guess we'll see what the tests show and go from there..

Lucky we love him very much!

What I was thinking was, that if he can't dominate the other cats, he'll have a good old go at showing you that he's boss in his core territory.

Bless the furry little humper. Hope it's behavioural, not the old ring o' fire.

Right - last set of results back and he has high levels of crystals Sad

He is to only have the specialist urinary dry food (no wet other than effing expensive Royal Canin stuff) and have a reassess in 3 months. Looks like he'll be on this diet for keeps though...

His previous owner only fed him dried Whiskers so he's used to a dry only diet but surely it is dull for him - but needs must...

If the humping keeps on happening after a few weeks on this, she will probably refer him on behavioural grounds but she does think it all stems from the crystals so we'll wait & see..

Thanks for listening - I already bore my rl friends to death with my wanking kitty stories so it's nice to be able to get it out to like minded cat lovers Grin

Ah, bless your furry little humper. Smile

Sounds like a sort of vicious cycle/catch22 of him holding his wee in because he's being bullied outside, that causing the old "ring o' fire", then humping you to make himself feel dominant, followed by the licking of bits which probably brought some relief to his erection and ring o' fire.

Does he drink enough water? Cats don't have much of thirst trigger. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind and do it through a syringe between their back teeth.

Poor you and Fushcat.

Also, bizarrely, your name made me decide i fancied fish and chips for dinner. I have a very suggestible psyche. Grin

Luckily he does like a drink so am not overly worried on that front but will keep an eye on it.

Hope you enjoyed your tea Grin
