We have found a kitten...

She was found very early this morning and taken in because she was very cold and distressed and near a very busy road. The friends who found her passed her on to us. We've had her scanned and she's not chipped. we've checked all the local vets lost and found books and she's not in them. We've contacted the local animal shelter, but no joy there and we have knocked on lots of doors and posted lots of flyers.

Can we do anything else to get her home?

She's about 9-12 mths old and very sociable. She hasn't been neutered or chipped, but seems well cared for. She has a crusty nose and is sneezing occasionally but has eaten and drunk well. She's yet to use the litter tray, but she's sat in it a few times, so she knows what it's for. She's slept for most of the day.

The vets advice was to leave her where we found her but I'm really loathe to do this due to the weather and busy road. There is also a lot of woodland near to where she was found, so not that many houses.

What do you think?

Oh she's gorgeous, and totally yours now. As a PP said, the universe has spoken.....and she looks so happy I bet she would just keep coming back anyway now she's chosen you. A happy day for mittens.

ArabellaStrange · 30/12/2014 20:38

She is lovely!
What a horrible vet, I can't believe that is a recommendation that anyone would make, least of all a vet! Strange person...

DistressedAndAlarmed · 30/12/2014 20:39

I would have thought anyone claiming to be her owner would be able to provide a photo of her. My phone is full of them! But maybe that's just me...

Good on you for looking after OP. Poor little thing.

She is practicing her relaxing. She's got it, I think! In the last picture, her legs look very slender. Glad she is safe.

timtam23 · 30/12/2014 23:14

Lovely, so glad that she has made herself at home with you Smile

Jux · 31/12/2014 00:24

Is it mean to hope her old owners don't want her?

She is lovely, and deserves a good home (and servants). So glad she chose you!

Pipbin · 31/12/2014 16:16

That is a happy kitten. She looks at home.
Poor love. What a sorry start, but it's going to end well.

What does the vet do about jabs etc when they don't know what she has had already?

thecatneuterer · 31/12/2014 16:58

pipbin It doesn't matter if a cat doubles up on vaccinations - it won't do any harm. So in this situation you just assume the cat needs everything (which it almost certainly does) and go from there.

Well, little mittens has gone home. Sad

Her lovely owner contacted us via the rescue centre. She was 5 months old and called Maisie. There was another little kitten at home who was missing her too.

The lady was very grateful and brought flowers and chocs and gave us all lovely hugs.

It was great to see them reunited even though dd was devastated as we were really starting to think she was ours to keep.

So a bittersweet ending, but the right one.

We've promised dd we'll get a kitten in the summer.

Ds said he would rather have an Ocelot Grin.

Happy New Year everyone. Give your lovely cats a cuddle from us.

Oh no! And yet also 'yay!'. Simultaneously good and bad news. What's the full story? How come the cat was lost? Was she far from home?

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/01/2015 08:21

Oh no! I mean its good they claimed her but you loved her too.

There's lots of kittens needing homes now & if you took a kitten in January it'd be jabbed & neutered ready for summer so you won't have to keep the doors & windows shut.

You get used to having them around so quickly don't you?.

Pipbin · 01/01/2015 08:52

It's lovely that they have been reunited but so sad for you.
A nice trial run though to see how you felt about having a cat in the house again.

girliefriend · 01/01/2015 10:10

Agree with Fluffy much easier keeping a kitten in in Jan than the summer Wink we got our girlkitten last summer and it was hellish having to keep windows and doors shut all the time - I think you are ready now Grin

Jux · 01/01/2015 12:37

Ah, I'm glad she's reunited with her kitten friend.

You do realise that waiting for summer would be a big mistake? Not only will it be really hard to keep a kitten in over the warmest part of the year when children want to be outside playing all day, but it would mean you would be very restricted as to holiday too. How long you went away for etc.

And there really are a lot of young cats needing homes right now, you'd get your pick.

Pasteurella · 01/01/2015 13:59

Yes! Get a kitten now, while you're still set up and ready for one - if you leave it, you might lose the impetus.

LOL at DS wanting an ocelot - not a Minecraft addict by any chance?

Gabriola · 01/01/2015 20:46

Yes to minecraft. Hence Mittens, it's what Stampy called his tamed Ocelot. Grin

I agree with you all about getting a kitten now, but we're getting some building work done between now and the summer and so I think it's best to wait. There will be periods when the roof and/or the back of the house will be missing and the thought of looking after a tiny cat in those circumstances is a little daunting. I think September when we're back from our hols will be better.

mittens wasn't far from home, but just outside our search circle. The family were new to the area and didn't know about the rescue centre till someone told them yesterday. Mittens was a rescue cat herself, and they have 2 others. She is booked in next week for chipping and neutering.

I didn't ask how she got out as it might of seemed a bit judgey. They clearly adored her. While she was with us she was very keen to get out, and frequently made a dart for the door or stood staring out of the window, I can see how it might have happened.

We might get some fish in the meantime. We've been given a tank.....
