Christmas Tree - 10 week old kitten

So .... how do I stop my 10 week old climbing the tree?

Have tried:-
pine cones under the tree.
Spraying the tree with a bitter apple spray.

Yeah no tree I'm afraid I got up the other morning with the tree on the floor and my 5 month old kitten looking very pleased with herself, she has now decided under the tree is her bed she now spends her days rolling about under it playing with baubles and sleeping Hmm

I have 2 14 week olds ... tree goes up next Friday ...I expect it wont last long

We've decided to forego a tree this year. MKitten is a serial climber, and the more you tell him not to do something, the more determined he is to do it. Just imagining the mayhem is giving me the fear.

You have put up a kitten theme park there is no way know to man to stop the determined kitten riding the rides.

It is the ultimate kitten/cat toy, just look on you tube.

Then what do you do? hang gangly things from it and put shiny stuff that moves in interesting ways dangling across it.

Ours have shown virtually no interest in the tree. We think that they are about a year old. Boy cat climbs 30ft trees as often as he can, but can't see the point in climbing the new addition. Girl cat has batted a few baubles but generally doesn't like to climb anyway unless she knows that there is a comfy lap/ blanket or to see herself in the mirror. She is such a bad feline feminist, although to be fair she does win most play fights.

Maybe it will get better next year. We didn't have ours as kittens.

We aren't putting ours up til my girls come home from Uni on the 19th. I am wracking my brains to think of a way to keep it up! Last year we had a real tree that has grown and is now outside in a barrel (going to put lights on it Smile) so I'm thinking an artificial one inside so at least they won't try and poo in the soil!!!!

Being as the kittens are 6 months old so still bonkers, and Maine Coons so huge ... I'm not betting the tree's chances!

Yeah that video is what happens in my house everyday at the moment she's brought the tree down twice now she is lucky she is cute little menace!

We have two 4-month-old kittens and a Christmas tree. They try to eat/climb/attack it every chance they get. Baubles are lots of fun obviously. We didn't put lights on the tree this year because they love chewing cables so we thought it was too risky!

My cats are 4 and 11 (years) I stopped them by buying a tree too small to climb.

Cozie - my Siamese does not regard no as ever applying to her or in fact anything that might mean she's supposed to do something other than what she wants...any sort of calling over noise or affectionate words always are meant for her, even if in fact they weren't, but not the negative ones, lol.

I'm not having a tree this year due to my two year old.

She starts mountaineering and hunting ornaments. Gets the others all excited. And they join in.

No tree ever made can withstand the assult of EvilKitty and her seven sheep-like mates. 5 of whom are in double figures and decidedly old enough to know better.

I tried no lights. I tried only bounceable ornaments. But it didn't really help my mood in the face of the carnage.

Last year the branches were all bent out of shape by the end of the first day and balding by Christmas day.

I give up.

Well yes and no...because I don't give in, she just ignores me anyway, lol...and then I buy tiny trees, so yes I suppose she has, lol

A bit late to this thread, but we're not even going to attempt to have a Christmas tree this year: we have two Balinese kittens (7 months' old), one of whom climbs everything. They have managed to break into cupboards, open doors (they worked out how to bang the handle by jumping at it till it turned), break plates on high shelves, cut off the phone by chewing through the wire and break the microwave (pushed it off a shelf). There is no way I'm introducing them to a Christmas tree.

Astonishingly, they do understand the word 'no' and stop mid action, but start again as soon as our backs are turned .
