How much do adult cats cost to keep?

I would love a feline friend for myself and 10-year-old ds.
If I get a cat it'll be from a sanctuary locally that re homes all their cars after they've been fully vaccinated, neutered and microchipped so none of those costs. They ask that a £60 donation made for the actual cat.

How much do adult cats cost on a weekly/monthly basis with things like food and litter? Also what about pet insurance, is it a rip-off or is it better to save that money each month to keep for any unexpected vet trips?

My mum is trying to put me off saying I need to think of the ongoing expense.

Remember cattery/cat sitter fees. A week's holiday usually costs £60-£90 with a CaT sitter

Unlikely to need the vet if it is a young cat - much higher risk when old.
No cat litter needed if you let it go outside.
Ask neighbours to feed it when you go away on holiday, or take it with you.
Cats are very cheap pets.

Before I got kitten, senior boy was on whiskas senior at £5 a week for two boxes, he doesn't touch biscuits so the £2 box has lasted weeks!

£2.99 for the litter which I change a couple of times a week.

He's not insured.

We pay £16 a month for insurance, around £8 a month for food (we buy a big bag every few months), £10 for fleaing/worming, £2.50 a week for cat litter. She is pretty cheap to run :) She did not cost us anything at the vets last month but the month before it was around £60.

We adopted our cat as an adult and I am so glad we did, it is a fantastic thing to do. You will soon wonder what you did without him or her.

Oooh so it's not that bad at all really! Less worried about it all now, I just know it's only a matter of time until I spot The One for me (or they spot me, more like Grin) and that'll be that Smile
