My cat has been hit by a car and in the emegency vets overnight

I am so sad, my poor cat went out from 4pm-8pm, I tried to get her in way before then due to fireworks and no luck, went to pick up dh, and dc's from swimming and found her howling on the door step, took her straight to the emergency vet, she has a fractured jaw, is missing teeth and possibly brain swelling, I am so upset, she has a cat flap and we try and keep her in at night, the one time she didn't come back and this happens, we live in a quiet village. A neighbouring garden had fireworks when she was out, I am guessing she ran in front of a car scared trying to get home. The vet will ring in the night in need be, but at 7am otherwise. I am not sure why I am posting, feel I need others like me will understand how awful it is.

Good. Tuna brine isn't the greatest as you said but it's important to get her back in the habit of eating and have her system moving again. (The grooming is just icing on the cake - it likely means she's feeling better about life.)

Great news!

Toocold · 13/11/2014 23:57

Thanks all. She has been to her food bowl this eve to have a lick of some jelly from normal cat food and has had a huge drink... and purred a lot, I am so pleased.

That's sounding better isn't it, glad she is at least starting to take an interest in food!

Toocold · 17/11/2014 20:59

Thanks for all the advice. This is just a quick update Toocoldkitten has had some more food and a few dreamies which really surprised us, is walking more easily but sleeping a lot, and has gone back to her kitten sleeping places, she is purring a lot more which is lovely to hear. Back to the vets on Wed for a check up, still no poo but I guess not much going in, not much will come out. She has also taken to sleeping under blankets like she used to, but is probably cold due to a bit of weight loss.

So some room for guarded optimism?

Be very sure to mention the lack of pooing to the vet, though. (Although I'm sure they'll check on that.) I agree that not much going in etc..... but on the other hand, you don't need any constipation.

Good luck to you all and keep us posted.

Still no poo, back to the vets tomorrow so I will ask then. All medicines bar eye drops finish tomorrow morning. She has been trying to get out of the (locked) cat flap and front door this afternoon, seems a bit better everyday.

I'm sweating on Seniorboy doing a poo as well so I know how it feels. Best of luck.

And you Cozie.

Been to the vets today, they are happy bar her eye, it is cloudy and has an ulcer on it, have to keep it very lubricated and she has antibiotics for it. Worst case scenario is having her eye out, hopefully it won't come to that. Does anyone have any tips on how to get eye drops in?, currently holding her in a towel like a baby and hoping for the best when I put drops in, difficult when her eye is pretty shut.

And she has a dodgy jaw as well.

Hopefullly another poster will have the ultimate tip - I just do as you're doing although I try to make it a two person effort.

Just wanted to update that Toocoldkitten is doing really well, eye ulcer is healing, as is jaw and she hasn't stopped eating!, she has also climbed the Christmas tree. We are at the vets once a week and the wire should be out after Christmas. Hopefully the only thing that we will have to do is lubricate her eye everyday, oh and my nerves will be one edge when she does eventually go out again...on an even tighter curfew.

Thanks again for everyone who kept me sane.

Thanks so much for the update, lovely to hear that she is doing so well Flowers

Maybe she will be less keen to venture out now that the weather is so much darker & colder!

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/12/2014 21:13

That is good news.
