Where do you keep your cat's water bowl?

I've had 'Unlucky' cat for 11 years, before I had another cat who made it to a good age. My parent's have also had cats for years ...and never come across this before.
Taken her to vet today for her injections and general check up - she asked about how much water she drank. I said no idea really - she mainly drinks outside - rarely drinks from her water bowl unless it's been very dry. Occasionally she drinks drips from the shower on the bath (see the pawprints)...but I think prefers rain water to treated tap.
Vet said that isn't the case - cats don't like having their water bowl next to their food - you should keep it elsewhere ....(and that her cats don't like bowls prefer tumblers)...
So have I (and my parents) been getting it wrong all these years? (actually pretty sure when DD1 was helping out at the cat rehoming centre they had their water bowls next to their food bowls...)
Anyone else heard this before?

My cat would never drink from his water bowl when it was next to his food. He happily drinks from it now I've moved it to another room, well as long as no one watches him he does.

Ours likes the toilet for a drink.

I never see him use his water so I think he drinks out of a pond or something nearby.

His water fountain was popular for a week. Waste of money.

Mine likes to drink out of the toilet too. The other one demands you turn the tap on for her.

When he was alive our Bruce liked drinking out of the pond, but when he got older he would avoid that if it was cold and damp and drink from the toilet instead! Any water left by his food would be tipped over (by him) straight away.
In the end we found that he liked having a bowl of water at the top of the stairs. Failing that he would drink out of dh's huge mug of tea when it went cold.

Mine don't seem to mind. I've only heard about not having food next to litter Tay.

I bought a water fountain a couple of years ago and she loves it. It's actually in the living room at the opposite end of the flat to her food, though I don't remember why I chose to put it there. If it's turned off she'll fuss around it until it's back on.

Water bowl in bathroom. Big none slip bowl and both cats drink from it. They will cry next to it if is not filled.

I got a water bottle for myself after seeing my old boy clean his bum then drink from my pint glass haha. He got his head stuck in it once and flung it all over a sleeping me trying to shake it off. Grin

Ha funny image there. The second one, not so much the first.

They really can be stupid. It's why we love them.

Yeah they're silly buggers but so so adorable Grin
