pet shop kittens

There is a shop near me that sells kittens and usually they look well and seem happy. Yesterday I was in the shop and they had four kittens who all seemed to have the runs, their back legs were covered in poo .Sad

I was going to report to RSPCA, but their website emphasised it was only for cruelty and put me off a bit.

It's possible isn't it that the owners were treating the problem? arghh- I should have spoken to them at the time.. What to do?

Can you go back and check up on them? If they aren't being treated surely that is cruelty and if that is the case then you should report to the RSPCA. Poor little things Sad

Is there a local cat rescue organisation that might help? Or trading standards might help?

hugoagogo · 30/10/2014 12:24

I say it's near me, it's to far for me to just pop in unfortunately.
Hmm will peek at twitter...

Report it to your local council as well, it's the council that do inspections and issue licences.

Unfortunately if they're anything like my local council their standards will be shockingly low and they'll say they're perfectly happy with the conditions. Same for the RSPCA. I've been reporting a vile little pet shop in my nearest city for years and neither will accept there's any kind of issue Sad

I'd agree with Pink. Non-treatment of a medical issue is surely cruelty in anyone's books.

hugoagogo · 30/10/2014 13:06

Yes of course it is, they did look like they had been clean that morning anyway, not like they had been in that state for ages. Which is what made me hesitate, better to report and there not be an issue in the end.

The whole thing about kittens in pet shops leaves me conflicted anyway- I love seeing kittens, but I'm not keen on the idea of them living in cages\tanks. Sad

If you report something, you're always reporting alleged whatever-it-is - the authority taking the report can make the actual decision when they know the full facts. (Although if I had sick kittens, I'd be removing them from public view after treatment and not leaving them there.)
