I'm one of those suckers who can't resist buying cute fluffy cat beds and cat dens, cat caves and pop-up cat tents, and I'm seriously considering crocheting a "cat cozy". Despite this one of my boys still favours sleeping inside his cat carrier box on a ratty old cushion pad that came with him from the rescue centre, and can often still be found sprawled out on the door mat as well. At least the other one likes the rather strange cardboard scratcher bed I bought, so it's a step up from my parents' cats who've spent years refusing to even place a paw on any designed-for-cats furniture! They believe their rightful place is hogging a full armchair to themselves instead.

Just wondering about other top cat sleeping spots? Mine show no interest in cardboard boxes, which the internet has always led me to believe most cats love given half a chance! A pile of clean washing, on the other hand...

All of the Siamese - in my bed (or on top of it in a heatwave.) Without exception if I recall.

The non-Siamese? Laundry cupboards on top of towels seem to be a favoured spot. (I've lived in a lot of old houses which have had laundry cupboards.)

My outside cats love the greenhouse and potting shed (they have a beautiful, purpose built cat-shed with heated blankets). DH ended up putting a catflap into the potting shed so they could indulge their love of sleeping on my seedlings.

My indoor girl varies, at the moment it is in front of the woodburner or on a pile of clean pet bedding or in the dog's basket.
She does have her own basket but she doesn't deign to sleep in that.

Boycat sleeps either in his box - a cardboard box with a fluffy sheepskin cushion in it under a seat or in a basket (not a cat basket as such) on top of our (tall) wardrobe. He gets down from the wardrobe by jumping straight on to the bed, which is quite interesting if someone happens to be in bed at the time, or worse, if the other cat is sleeping on the bed and he lands on her.

....or worse, if the other cat is sleeping on the bed and he lands on her.....

He probably knows perfectly well she's there and does it deliberately!

He likes our bed, his own bed and on top of his cat tree.

Our bed, he's a traditionalist. Plus he's not allowed on the sofa.

He has a dog bed, the base is thicker than a cat one and the sides are higher so its cosier. I pop a hot water bottle in during the winter with a fleece he can snuggle under.

I'm very jealous of your fire jumped

I'm also rather jealous of that fire - looks toasty!

My boys don't particularly seem interested in radiators yet, the couple of times I've stuck the heating on in the evenings. One of my Mum's late cats Smudge was a proper heat-seeking missile and you could easily follow the line of the hot pipes feeding the radiators where they lay under the floor because he'd inexplicably be curled up in the middle of the room where it was warm! He also used to sit so close to the gas fire in the living room that I swear he charred his whiskers...

Mine sleeps on the end of the bed - then moves to my warm spot when I go to the loo in the night!

aJumpedUpPustulatingBoil · 27/10/2014 19:32

I do love our fire. Mind you, the best armchair (next to the fire) is always occupied by a cat or dog.
Whichever one gets there before the other sits in splendour while the other one sits of the floor and glares.
If I dare to sit there they both sit and glare at me.

We used to have a woodburner on quite tall legs and the cat we had at the time used to sleep under it when it was lit - I was always worried he'd overheat and would move him - he would wriggle away and go straight back.
