Like Felix but not

Our cats were having purely wet cat food from pets at home but they are discontinuing it so it hasn't been in stock (plus now I know we need to change) this week they have had Felix which they love but now I know that Purina is owned by Nestle and I don't by nestle products (due to their stance on promotion of baby milk) what is an alternative?
I would love to have the money to buy brands like almo but not possible, friend suggested bozita but can't find it 'on highstreet' and don't want to mail order a huge quantity if they don't like it, any suggestions? asking in store or google seems to throw back at lot of Felix recommendations - what tastes just like it to cats??

Kitekat

What kind of budget do you have?

GoodboyBindleFeatherstone · 25/10/2014 22:38

Whiskas, Sheba, Applaws.

madamy · 25/10/2014 22:39

My fussy 15 yr old toothless girl loves Felix tins in jelly and pouches even more. I ran out last week and bought Aldi vitacat (or whatever it's called) to tide us over, and she loves it! Tins are only 38p and they do pouches too.

If you have a look on zooplus they rank the food by quality. If you have a look in each section you will get a feel for price, although the only do bulk which might not be good if you are experimenting.

If you want to buy from pet stores/supermarkets then your best options (highest meat content, less fillers, etc) would be Natures Menu, Hi Life, Gormet perle, encore, butchers classic.

Be careful though as some of those brands do complementary ranges too which tend to be in the same packaging as the complete food.

SmokingGun · 25/10/2014 22:44

Food to avoid tends to be Whiskas, kitekat, Sheba, purina, etc. They tend to be regarded as the McDonald's equivalent for cat food so you end up feeding the cat alot more.

Seniorboy has developed a passion for Felix AGAIL (OK - I was desperate to get some calories and meds into him so was trying everything - don't judge me) so I'm stuffed.

RubbishMantra · 26/10/2014 01:24

Have a look on zooplus. A wealth of delicious foods for cats!

Animonda Carny is good, and kind to the purse.

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/10/2014 08:44

Judges Cozie Grin

Aldi pate tins are 20p each. Or butchers choice, but amionda carney is what I'd go for.

WonderIfThingsWillChange · 26/10/2014 10:42

My cats go through phases with food but the unanimous verdict for them is the aldi wet cat food! They eat Arden grange biscuits too but can't get enough of the aldi wet food!

FangsForBloodyNothing · 26/10/2014 12:39

Same here cozie and only the Purina dry food too(I thought Purina was a decent quality actually-am I wrong). What the hell is in Felix AGAIL? Having said that, both my girls were at the vets lately for annual checks and he commented on what great shape they were in and asked what was I feeding them? They have lovely healthy coats etc.So I am going to stick with it I think...even though its a tad on the expensive sideAngry

cozietoesie · 26/10/2014 13:26

I'd take a tougher line if he was a young and healthy cat but he's old and a little crotchety - and entirely capable of going on a full on hunger strike if he was so minded. Add to that the fact that he has to have regular meds and I'm in some difficulty.

I'm fairly resigned now to letting him have what he wants as long as it doesn't seem to be actively bad for him. I don't know what's in AGAIL but it's certainly hitting the spot for his breakfast and supper. (He gets a better food for his tea.)

RatherInterredInBanshees · 27/10/2014 11:02

My cat likes Felix and Tesco Chef's Special, so I get the impression they are very similar.

PinkSparklyElephant · 27/10/2014 12:43

My principles go out of the window when it comes to H - if he likes it he has it!

FushandChups · 27/10/2014 21:25

New cat only been with us two days (well, one & a half) and was told he loved his Whiskers. I didn't have any in but had a small stash of Aldi pouches from my previous puss - new cat loves it! Not sure what they put in it, but seems a popular choice & definitely cheap enough to give it a go.. about £2,50 for 12 pouches!

Squeegle · 27/10/2014 21:29

My cats like aldi vita cat pouches too. They won't eat the cheaper version that aldi does though. They're also not keen on the aldi premium dry food, although to me it looks like iams. Has anyone tried their standard dry food, do your cats like it!?

FushandChups · 28/10/2014 08:53

My old cat wouldn't eat their premium wet food so stuck to the regular one. I was given a couple of boxes of the dried and my cat would eat it but I switched to Iams complete stuff which went down a whole lot easier Smile Could be worth a go though - it's cheap enough to throw away if you have no luck?
