Best thing to clean kitten's eyes with?

around the eyes, mainly underneath in the creasy bit
Have been using cotton bud or cotton wool pad soaked in warm water
My friend has some cat & dog eye wipes from Wilkos but they seem a bit rough and dry to me
Is there anything very effective but gentle?
He's white so the black eye 'bogies' really show up, and get caked on dry and hard. I can't rub too hard or the pink skin underneath ends up looking a bit raw
Also he gets black nose bogies that dry really hard! I have to pull them out with my fingernails. Luckily I love him so much! ;-)

here he is after I cleaned his eyes. Don't worry, he doesn't spend his life being dressed up! He literally wore the Halloween coat for about 30 seconds

what a handsome cat. I always use cotton wool and warm water.

they get dirty again really quick. But I suppose it shows more because he's white? or are white animals more prone?

One of the vets who post recommended cold tea as a wipe - apparently the tannin is anti - inflammatory if I recall.

Has he had his vaccinations yet ?

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/10/2014 09:01

I use cold tea after a tip on here. Smile It cleared up Big Pussy Boy's winky eye a treat.

Sorry-new computer so I'm a bit tentative. The reason I mentioned vaccination is that Seniorboy has residual cat flu (actually it's post-viral mumble but I'll use cat flu as shorthand) and the first sign that he's got a problem is always heavy 'sleep' in his eyes.

What is his personal grooming like.

not had his vac's yet, so he doesn't go out. He is very good at washing but not his eyes, and the gunk does stick tight.

How old is he? I think I'd be getting his vaccinations scheduled directly.

alltoomuchrightnow · 25/10/2014 18:05

He'll be four months on Nov 4th. He's been chipped and had check up. So i need to get his vac's done but I want him neutered too before he goes out.still v nervous at the thought of him going out.. .am being v 'PFB' (being that I've never actually had kids and can't..so he is my baby!) want to get a tracker for collar too

Vaccinations immediately then - phone the vet first thing to arrange. (He'll need two appointments.) You could book him in for his neutering as well. (I'm not sure about the timing of neutering vis a vis vaccinating but your vet shoud advise.)

Didn't the vet say anything about vaccinations at his check up? It seems like a heck of an omission in their advice to you.

I use warm camomile tea on my kitten's face if he needs a hand with the eye-bogies.

I read somewhere that something in cat's excretions stains their fur a rust colour. My black cat's tail is gingery at the tip, where he suckles it.

YY to vaccinations ASAP - he should have them whether going outside or not!
