Feline acne

My gorgeous boy has acne on his chin. He is on antibiotics from the vet, it's not clearing up at the moment, though it's better than it was. When I shine the torch at his chin I can see blackheads forming.

Has anyone successfully treated this?

His plates are fresh twice per day, he drinks from a glass and does know how to clean his chin.

Help!

Marking place as my cat has this too and nothing seems to help :(

I had a cat with this. Are they lone cats?

One of my cats had it.

When I got another cat even the small amount of grooming for each other seemed to sort it out. Of course getting another cat on the off chance they'd get on well enough to groom each other is a bit much. If I have a sole cat again I'd add a gentle clean with a damp cloth to my evening cat-on-lap cuddle.

But apart from that I've no idea. It might be coincidence that it cleared up them, or perhaps her acne trigger was stress as she overcleaned. Perhaps company was the cure. Are they stressed about anything in particular?

Ignore the repetition of the fact I had a cat with it. I was fighting off a cat while typing my post and went and fed her. Then came back and couldn't make sense of my post.

You'll understand. It's hard to concentrate with a cat nuzzling your typing hands and trying to sidle up to sit on the keyboard (why do they think if they slink up slowly we won't notice???)

I seem to recall a poster saying recently that plastic plates could cause it. What kind does he have?

idlefolly · 22/10/2014 18:38

My five year old cat has recently developed this in the last two weeks! I have bathed it with diluted hibiscrub a few times, which she obviously hates and now I can't get near her with a cotton wool pad. I googled home remedies yesterday and apple cider vinegar cropped up a lot. I haven't tried it. Someone also said they got some clearasil for sensitive sun and it worked.

I have swapped my cat's plastic bowls for ceramic ones and the black bits seem to have lessened (they are still there though) but she has a swollen chin! Is your cat's chin just normal but with blackheads? Try bathing it. I'd have a go with salty water if it didn't mean upsetting her so much. What did the vet say?

He has porcelain plates.

He is a lone cat, he wouldn't tolerate another cat.

I think I will try cleaning his chin with a flannel, that would be a bit like a cat tongue perhaps? First I'll have to wait for it to clear up, it's too sore at the moment.

Our poor cats.

*skin not sun.

Cross post Idle.

My cat's chin has a combination of blackheads and pimples. (He is very beautiful, honestly!) He did have a swollen chin, it was a cyst and it burst. That's when I took him to the vet. The vet didn't seem too worried, told us to put a buster collar on him for three days and he has ten days of antibiotics.

I've only noticed this in the last two weeks.

Some guidance on the subject. (I've been lucky never to have had a cat with it and, reading the guidance, I can only thank my lucky stars that I don't have afflicted Persians.)

elfycat · 22/10/2014 19:04

Oh that poor Persian.

DCat was part Persian (you could tell from the flatter face and general air of disapproval) though was a 'fluffy' short hair.

RubbishMantra · 22/10/2014 20:22

My colourpoint Devon Rex gets blackheads between his toes. As a breed, they are quite greasy.

Once a week I give them quite a firm rub with unscented pure Huggies baby-wipes, dipped in a little warm water, which keeps it under control.

I never knew cats were so greasy!

Smack head cat has this little charmer at the minute.
Despite what it looks like that isn't a head, more a scab that has gone manky from drool, although I can see what looks like a yellow head in the middle. He's chin is swollen. Expecting a fountain of cat sporn in next few days.
