Our new kitten is arriving at the weekend from the local rescue centre: to say we're excited is an understatement!

She - as yet unnamed - will be arriving with a bed, litter tray etc but I'd be very grateful for any advice about helping us to help her settle in.

If any one could offer words of advice or maybe link to another thread which covers this subject matter, I'd be really grateful.

We have another female cat - adult when we got her - and a soppy Labrador who is wary of all cats. We haven't had any experience of kittens so all pearls of wisdom gratefully received!

TIA

We got two kittens on Saturday :)
I bought the book "The Cat Expert" which is really detailed and interesting, it has loads of advice for every stage from kittens to older.
You could also look on the Cats Protection website, they have PDF guides.
My advice is to:
Set up one room which you keep kitty in to begin with while he gets used to it. Obviously you need food and water, litter tray, and somewhere comfy for kitty to sleep (eg cardboard box with a blanket in it)... He probably won't use it though, ours have been sleeping in awkward places! They seem to like getting high up eg climbing on top of the carrier, on shelves, and the window sill. We bought a scratch post which they seem to be using and we're thinking maybe we should have got one with a little platform on top. We also got a feather wand thing which they have been enjoying chasing.
Other things.. When you first bring the kitten in, open the carrier but don't take him out, just sit quietly nearby and let him take his own time. Let him explore and come to you.
No advice on introducing to other pets (these two are our first pets) but the Cat Expert book and the Cats Protection website have lots of advice about the best way to do it.
Enjoy your new kitty! :)

PS Ask the rehoming centre which food he's been eating and which litter he's been using so you can get the same. It's nice for them to have stuff they're used to at first, then you can always phase it out if you want.
