New rescue cat & regular visiting dogs

New rescue cat is settling in very well :) Still a little timid of DC's & tends to hide but they are not hunting for her & are being gentle when she approaches so hopefully she will get used to them.

My dad lives a couple of hours away & has 2 spaniels, one is an oldish puppy of 10 months & the other one is about 3, so a bit more laid back. My dad comes for dinner every Thursday, drives up with the dogs, stays for a couple of hours then drives back. Its too long to leave his puppy alone so the dogs have to come with him & I don't drive so I can't go to him. My sister comes round too & its the only time we see him regularly.

So what do I do with my rescue girl? Should she meet the dogs? (I've discussed this with dad & thinks his dogs will be barky & chasey, they wouldn't just settle in time). So do I keep her in a closed room upstairs with her litter tray/food & water/toys & treats & keep them apart? Or do I introduce them & hope the cat tree would be enough of an escape for her? I think the dogs would scare her, they have not lived with cats before & she has not lived with dogs before.

Opinions? Thanks

I would make a safe comfy place in your bedroom with litter tray etc and leave her in there for the afternoon. When she has really settled into your home and made it her own she could meet the dogs then.

Yes, shut cat away safely. Don't risk the dogs chasing her for a long long time. When she has really settled with you she will know where to go to get away from the dogs. If they haven't been trained not to chase they definitely will and cat could leave home.

Could you put up a baby gate with vertical bars to allow the cat to roam freely, but keep the dogs away. I guess the cat will probably stay well away and hide but it feels "nicer" than shutting her in a room by herself. As she becomes more confident she will have the opportunity to investigate if she wishes but can get to a safe place easily. This is obviously dependant on how portly she is and the ability to fit through gaps in said baby gate.
