Cat not settling in to new house

We moved house a couple of months ago with our two cats. At first we had the stress howling though the night, which we expected, and then the howling to go out, which we also expected. They've been going out for 3 or 4 weeks now and while one of them has settled in no problem, the older cat (he's 6 years old) just doesn't seem himself. Husband says he is just taking longer to settle, but over the past week or so he seems to have got worse - he isn't really interested in going out, he is howling for attention all the time, he is overeating and then vomiting, he seems agitated and is stress-grooming.

Thing is - at our old house he wasn't a stressed cat at all - he was really laid back and took everything in his stride - visitors, trips to the vet, new kitten - no problem.

Is he just taking longer to settle or could there be another cause?

Get some Feliway. This really works. Tamed my freaked out kitten.

I think he just needs to get time to it. Maybe let explore the house a lot or maybe a few rooms.

Also (if not then try to see them) the Horizon programmes on cats are good, the BBC ones.

Cats often (especially if male) I'd guess his territory filter is way out of kilter (yes that rhymes!). He probably has no idea, can he go out or not, is it safe what about other cats etc?

Another thread has suggested blanket maybe with your scent for comfort. Also lots of toys, laser, soft etc I'd try. Maybe some treat foods too. I coped with new kitten by getting him out with Iams and treats but in all honesty he was out when I was asleep! You could do a vet visit just in case though.

Feliway definitely - the problems you've listed are all over their website.

We recently moved house with our six year old rescue cat (who gets v stressed about change) and were advised by the vet to put one diffuser in the room he used most/hid in, and one in the main room in the house to tempt him to come and relax in there.

It took a few days but after that it worked really well, we kept the feliway going for a couple of months (not cheap but worth it) until he had really established himself in the new house.

Thanks. I had been thinking about trying Feliway - will definitely order some now!

I tried the cheaper one, Pet Remedy and it's worked well for my 11 year old boy in our new house.
