Kitten pooing on the spare bed

And I have no idea why. It hs happened a couple of times before, but now twice intwo days.. both times early in the morning I think as I have woken to the smell :(

There is a litter tray in the room.. and one downstairs, and one in the conservatory which is not really used at all, as tho we have two kittens and an older cat, she is not a litter tray user and it's there just in case she gets shut in by accident. I'm not sure which kitten it is either, but they are both healthy (19 weeks old now) and the poo is solid not runny. The trays are emptied daily and washed out weekly.

Girly kitten is the more nervous of the two and likes to sleep in the spare room so I suspect it might be her, but either way I have no idea why or what to do to stop it. Any ideas?

How are they all getting on with each other, Medusa ?

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 20/10/2014 16:01

They have settled pretty well now. Ok Portia doesn't LIKE them (never excpected she would as she didn't like Morph) but she comes and goes normally, sleeps on DS2's bed in the day..happy to be in the house with them and on a few occasions has actually sat side by side for Dreamies.

The kittens have learned their place.. more or less. Ophie is submissive and Portia will hiss sometimes but mosty ignores; I do wonder if she has needed the loo and one or other cat has scared her in some way. She also needs the litter to be spotless.. I try obviously but if Obie has done a poo in the night it is going to be there in the litter when I wake up and maybe she just won't come downstairs at night?

I've put a shower curtain over the bed for now... hopefully that will put him/her off!

It surely sounds as if someone is unhappy about something so I do wonder if Ophie is a scaredy? (Obie is more bouncy isn't he?)

How many trays do you have, Medusa and where are they situated?

cozietoesie · 20/10/2014 17:04

Sorry - I meant at nighttime.

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 20/10/2014 18:02

Three... one upstairs in the spare room , one in the downstairs loo and one in the conservatory.. so a decent spread . I haven't really anywhere to put a 4th that we wouldn't all trip into in the night!

Can you put one of the downstairs one upstairs?

I wonder if the old faithful Feliway could ease tensions a bit.

cozietoesie · 20/10/2014 18:29

I think that despite the possible practical difficulties, you should identify somewhere in the spare room to put another one I'm afraid. If Ophie is a scaredy, she might not want to go downstairs at night to use a tray down there - and if their pooing rhythm is such that they're busting by the early hours and Obie gets in first..........?

They can feel a bit insecure when they poo so she's wanting to stay in her safe place as best she can, I suspect. (Sorry to concentrate on her but it does sound to me as if she's the culprit.)

SageSeymour · 20/10/2014 18:39

Do they have to be upstairs?

If I was experiencing this issue then the cats would be confined downstairs with litter trays.

I've kept cats for years on and off and currently have a 12 week old kitten. I was mean from day one though and shut the living room door. I don't mind her roaming about during the day - apart from my bedroom -but I couldn't allow poo ing on beds to continue

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 20/10/2014 21:58

They do have to come upstairs.. cos they cry otherwise! They are very vocal babies , very talkative and they like to be near us at night.

I think I'll try a second tray upstairs in the bathroom and hope DS2 doesn't tread in it Grin (He's a 6 footer with autism and learning difficulties and isn't best co ordinated even in daylight...and he sleep walks.....) Hopefully Ophie can go there for her 5am poo if Obie has bagged the spare room tray first.

Otherwise they are all pretty happy and chilled most of the time:) Ophie has decided she loves DS2 most which is just fabulous as he is a gentle autistic young man and is so proud that she wants HIM :)

I must post some pics as they have literally doubled in size. Ophie isn't going to be a big MC..she's all fluff, but Obie has the potential to be a big fat ginger beastie Grin

Just a thought - but if she gets on so well with DS2, could she sleep with him and have a tray in his bedroom? It might actually help his sleepwalking to have a warm cuddly body next to him in bed. (I say that because I've always slept with my personal boys and it's so incredibly soothing.)
