Cost of fitting a cat flap in upvc door?

Just that, really. I'm moving and don't know what I should pay. Googling's useless - it's all results from the same "we'll contact a fitter" website, with no prices given.

£20? £40? More?

Btw, I can't DIY as it's a rented flat and they allow it if done professionally. I'm not that professional!

Its not that hard to do your self, we just used a jig-saw to cut the hole and sealant to seal around it when it was fitted.

do you have facebook? ask on a local selling site for a handyman there are loads on my local pages that come out and do odd jobs like this, no idea what it would cost though.

Ahh cross post about the rented flat!

:) Good idea about the local pages, though! Thanks.

If the hole is to be made into a upvc panel, not glass, then really it's only a handyman's call-out charge £50 tops I would say. But it's really, really easy to do yourself as ClaimedbyMe describes.

And you don't need to worry about it having to be a professional job. If anything goes wrong, or even just when you leave, you can just replace the upvc panel for an uncut one for very little money.

If it is in the glass, they will have to make a new glass panel with the cat flap in. Costs between £100 -200.

GarlicOctopus · 17/10/2014 14:34

Aha ... it is a solid panel, not glass. You reckon I can do it, then, TCN? I've only put them in wood before. But, if the replacement panel's quite cheap, then it's worth a go :) Thank you!

Since there are lots of cats in the new place, I'm going to need a microchip flap - and her vaccination's are overdue, so trimming the cat budget is very important atm. Poor thing, she's only just rediscovered her hunting skills while we're staying in the country; now she's going to become a flat cat. Still, I'm not sure all these mice & rabbits are good for her health and she'll still be able to compete with her neighbours for birds!

(See why I stay away from this board? Once I get started I can't shut up about my cat Blush)

Argh, I'm catching stray apostrophe disease!

Here you go - although if you've put them in wood before, it sounds as if guides could be superfluous.

Good luck anyway.

If you change the panel you can keep the original & re-fit it when you leave.

A blank panel cost us £30, they might be cheaper online though.

They are worryingly easy to "pop" out once you've got the beading out.
