Shit - strange kitten in my house - now hiding!!

Unbelieveable.
Got home from school and went into the kitchen. There, on the floor, is the most beautiful little tortoiseshell kitten!!!! It clearly belongs to one of the farm cats and has wriggled through the cat flap and couldn't get out, as it's set to in only.

It's now gone behind and under a kitchen cupboard and if I look with a mirror and a light i can see it's bundled up terrified! Sad

What do I do? Its mum was around earlier but has buggered off now. How do I get it to come out?

You have some kind of cat magnet in that house don't you?. You might need to take the kick boards off and get it out that way.

CatKisser · 10/10/2014 16:55

It's called "living on a farm where the farmer doesn't neuter his pets!" Sad
I've just let the mum in - I even put bloody food for her in the cupboard her baby's hiding under and nothing!!! Really worried - MAybe need to shut Olive and Snow upstairs and sit for a few hours with the back door wide open to give it a chance to get out.

The boards don't seem to be moving in the slightest and I've prbably scare it even more. Ive got the back door wide up and the mum is wandering round the kitchen in delight at being allowed in. (Probably pissing everywhere.) No sign of baby though. AAAAGH no - she's out!!! Watching closely to make sure they bugger off outside!!!

Excellent, hope they get out ok.

InfinitySeven · 10/10/2014 17:02

Gosh I want a kitten.

Take pictures so I can brood over them?

CatKisser · 10/10/2014 17:04

Right. She's back behind the cupboard because she bloody tried to follow mum into the living room ,saw me and scarpered. Am having to keep mum topped up in food so she won;t leave without baby. Not what I expected Friday evening to be about!

cozietoesie · 10/10/2014 17:09

In a way that's OK because it means she's not trapped there. I'd leave the kitchen in peace and quiet (after grabbing a bottle and some sandwich makings) and let her come out at her own speed.

Remind me - you did want another kitten didn't you? (Because I think you've been Dudleyed again. Grin)

CatKisser · 10/10/2014 17:11

Oh this is so sad! She's coming out to follow mum and mum is hissing at her! She also appears to be blind or very badly infected in one eye. (Which, selishly, is making me worry about the risk to my 3). She definitely needs to see a vet - I really cannot keep her (in all seriousness this time) or I think my friends will stage an intervention.
Am sitting quietly now giving her a chance to come out.
GOD.

Oh dear, I wonder if mum deems her old enough to fend for herself and has kicked her out?.

Poor little thing

cozietoesie · 10/10/2014 17:16

Maybe Mum rejected her because of the sickness so she was hungry and came looking for food? (Female farm cats can be ruthless sometimes. They have to be.)

When is your vet open till tonight - and do they do a Saturday morning surgery?

Poor wee stick.

CatKisser · 10/10/2014 17:20

I think they're open tomorrow. But I have no money! I mean, none, not even for emergencies. Not ideal I now!! I don't mind looking after her until a good home can be found, but I absolutely can't afford vets bills!!

JubJubBirds · 10/10/2014 17:22

Oh, poor kitten! What is wrong with your farmer neighbour that he lets this happen?

cozietoesie · 10/10/2014 17:24

Phone local CPL ? (It might also be a good way to get them interested in the farmer and all his unspayed females.)

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/10/2014 17:25

I wonder if the RSPCA would help if the kitten is suffering but not being given vet care?.

I know it's a long shot because they are a bit crap.

You shouldn't have to pay for his cats vet care, he's probably loaded.

minkah · 10/10/2014 17:25

RSPCA time?

CatKisser · 10/10/2014 17:26

I now, JubJub. I spoke to him a couple of months ago hoping to broach the subject of neutering and he reckons this matriarch farm cat is their PET, which made me feel I couldn't exactly get her trapped and neutered. (He's my landlord too and don't want to piss him off any more than I have to.) I feel terrible.
Have rung the vet in town and they suggest the RSPCA but don't they put animals down in this situation?

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 10/10/2014 17:28

Farmers often see farmcats as 'working animals' JubJub and just leave them to get on with it. (As opposed to family pets who might be allowed in the house etc.)

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/10/2014 17:29

Not always, I bet there's no record of any of his farm cats recieving vet treatment ever.

I don't miss the countryside.

CatKisser · 10/10/2014 17:30

He won't pay, he's loaded but a tight bastard. It took 6 months to get a new front door minus holes out of him. Right. I'm going to have to let mum go outside as she clearly doesn't want this kitten (approx 2 months old I think) any more. Then will have to just let her come out on her own.

OP posts:
CatKisser · 10/10/2014 17:32

And now it's effing raining so I'll have to shut the back door.
Thanks for the advice so far - back in a bit. Hopefully with good news.

cozietoesie · 10/10/2014 17:32

Afraid so - at that age, Mum might well have just pushed her off on the grounds that she was of an age to look after herself as Fluffy suggested. She won't take her back if so.

CatKisser · 10/10/2014 20:10

Right, the baby has gone outside!
Despite hissing at her kitten earlier, the mum has been sitting on my wall all evening so I let her in again and the little one promptly leapt out and I gently shoes them outside.
Have spoken to my mum and she says of the kitten sticks around, she will take her home next time she visits. (I'm 250 miles away)
My dad has a farm and the kitty would be just fine there. Funnily enough he managed to get his ferals neutered and treated! I know it's not ideal but I cant think of a better solution. Sad

You've done your best, CatKisser so fingers crossed for a good outcome.

Let us know how things progress.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/10/2014 20:15

Your dads obviously a good man who likes animals then, this farmers a different kettle of fish.

CatKisser · 10/10/2014 20:17

Dad bitches like anything about the cats but still manages to feed them daily and they have the full run of workshop loft. Mum will be up in two weeks during half term. Fingers and everything crossed the kitten does ok until then.
